The joyous season has once again brought us together. Since its inception in 2006, the CityU Doctor of Business Administration DBA program has witnessed remarkable growth, with close to 200 DBA graduates to date. To celebrate this milestone, we recently organized a Christmas party that united the very first cohort member, like Dr. Gary Cheng, from 2006, with the latest member in 2023 cohort, like Patrick KHONG.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. Rajeev Chib and Dr. Pietro Immordino for orchestrating such a delightful gathering. Great to see you all including Dr. Wilson chan, Dr. Albert Koo, Anderson Munyoung CHA, Dr. Beryl Chow, Dr. CK Chan, DBA, Eugene Lau, Dr. Hedy Sat, Joyce Tam, Mike Tsui, KK Leung, and many others.

We were truly grateful to witness an increasing number of industry leaders joining our ranks and embracing the title of Business-Scholar. Not only are we actively practising in various industries, but we are also contributing to research and teaching at universities. We are all grateful that we are empowered to create both business and social impact to our society.

With Professor Kalok Chan at the helm as our new Dean of the Business School and the continuous leadership from our DBA Director Professor Muammer Ozer, I am certain that our CityU DBA program will thrive and prosper. Let us embrace this collective journey of learning and personal growth, united in our pursuit of a brilliant future. Here’s to the exciting times that lie ahead! Cheers!

🎶🎅🎁🎄Merry Christmas to all my colleagues at CUHK. We did have a fun celebration party last week. Thinking back my last 5 years at CUHK, it was an amazing and fruitful journey. I was so grateful to have collaborated with my colleagues in numerous departments of CUHK Business School in my journey at CUHK.

We have together nurtured top current and future leaders through our EMBA (English and Chinese), MBA, MiM, MSc. programs and APIB corporate training. We also created the first-ever Corporate Innovation Index (CII) to measure the level of innovation of Hong Kong companies, Mini MBA programme, Digital Leadership Series, Greater Bay Area (GBA) Series, just name a few. Most importantly, I have had the privilege of meeting and teaching a group of exceptionally talented students during my time at CUHK. These individuals possess incredible intellect and potential, and it is truly remarkable to witness their brilliance firsthand. If it weren’t for my involvement in this CUHK journey, I may have never had the opportunity to connect with such extraordinary minds.

In the pleasant Christmas time, I would like to send my big thank to my current and former colleagues across different departments in the business school in particular Dean Professor Lin Zhou, Wong Yue Wing, Alien, Professor Andrew Chan, Professor Kalok Chan, Professor Cheung WM, Wendy Lai, Rebecca Wong, Carol Yung, Eric Yu, Jonathan Chung, Professor Pong Yuen, Howard Lam, Professor Andrew Yuen, Chun So, Ken Lin, Canethy Yip, Jean Yuen, Annka Koo, Yeda Lam, Professor Sean Zhou, Elaine Chu, John LAI for their full support and trust.

Working in the innovation and technology industry for more than 30 years, I empowered my clients and colleagues on digital transformation and corporate innovation. Through my classes, I can scale it up and share my practical experience and methodologies with hundreds if not thousands of executives in Hong Kong, mainland China and ASEAN. I am grateful for my good health and unwavering passion, allowing me to pursue my endeavors tirelessly and with great joy. I am writing a book on this so a wider audiences from all over the world can have opportunities to learn my experience. Stay tuned.

It’s truly remarkable that our students have become our friends, and the engagement has continued even after their graduation. It has been a lovely journey, and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have helped me become the best Business-Scholar I could be. Being a Business-Scholar means practicing in the industry and teaching at the university, creating both business and social impact. I firmly believe that graduates of the Doctor of Business Administration (#DBA) program are meant for this kind of work. Our journey is ongoing, and together, let’s continue to do wonderful things!

Over the past two years, my team and I at OpenCertHub Academy have provided thousands of BEA’s teammates in Hong Kong with the right mindsets, skillsets and knowledge to enhance their data literacy. This initiative has proven to be invaluable, benefiting individuals at all levels of the organization by enabling them to effectively utilize data in their daily work and enhance their business and operation performance. Building on this success and the trust we have established, our collaboration with BEA has expanded beyond Hong Kong to include BEA teammates in mainland China. Heartfelt thank to BEA management’s trust and support to us especially Stephen Leung, Kenny Au, Doris Tong and their teammates.

In collaboration with my teammate Dr. Victor Ng , we have recently launched a new chapter of our Data Literacy Empowerment Program (#DLEP) in Shenzhen for BEA’s mainland teammates. The initial workshops were highly successful, with our students displaying a high level of interaction, engagement, and impressive performance.

During these workshops, we shared the latest advancements in AI and Big Data applications in financial services, as well as imparted knowledge on data mindset, data-driven problem-solving, data storytelling, data-inspired innovation, and more. You may visit www.ochacademy.com to know more about our DLEP.

This positive start has provided great encouragement to my team at OpenCertHub Academy. We have already demonstrated the value of our Data Literacy Empowerment Program (#DLEP) in Hong Kong, working with influential clients across various industries. Now, we are expanding our expertise in data literacy democratization and data monetization to other regions, including GBA, rest of the mainland China and ASEAN.

If you are interested in empowering your teammates with data literacy or would like to explore partnership opportunities in mainland China, ASEAN or any other countries with us, please do not hesitate to reach out. Cheers.

Congratulations to all the winners of the Best HR Awards 2023, hosted by CTgoodjobs. It is an honor for me to have served as one of the judges for this prestigious event for four consecutive years. A full list of all award winners can be found here.

I am grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new acquaintances within the HR community like Doris Tong, Jo Ledarney (she/her), Bessie Chong, Anita Chan, Fanny Lau, Amy Ho, Kam To, Michelle Leung, Kevin K., Ken Lam, Amen Lee, Alex Wong and many others. The conference received tremendous support from the HKSAR Government Labour and Welfare Bureau and the HR community in Hong Kong.

I am particularly delighted to witness the inclusion of additional award categories focusing on digitalization and innovation. These categories aim to recognize and encourage HR professionals in Hong Kong to leverage technology and data effectively. By doing so, they not only enhance the digital transformation of their HR functions but also foster an environment of innovation and cultivate a forward-thinking mindset among their colleagues.

As the founding Chairman of DaLa – Data Literacy Association  #DaLa, it was a privilege for me to present one of my favorite awards today—the Data Literacy Award. This award, co-created by CTgoodjobs and myself last year, highlights the importance of data literacy and culture in not just the HR field but also their whole organization.

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Bank of East Asia The Bank of East Asia, Limited (BEA) for winning the Grand Award of the Data Literacy Award for the second consecutive year, as well as to DBS Bank DBS Bank for receiving this prestigious recognition this year. Hope these great cases inspire more HR leaders and professionals to empower their colleagues on data literacy.

Appreciate Vivienne Wong, Shirley Pi and their CTgoodjobs teammates to have organized such a fantastic and inspiring conference today. Thank you.

JumpStarter, organized by the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund (AEF), has established itself as a prominent and flagship startup event in Hong Kong. This year’s edition was particularly remarkable, as it took place in a stunning venue overlooking the picturesque Hong Kong harbour. The theme was “Tech by the Harbour”. Impressive and amazing!

The highlight of the event was the pitch competition, where the top 30 startups, meticulously chosen from a pool of global entries, showcased their ideas with utmost dedication. It was an immense honor for me to serve as a judge during one of the final rounds, representing DaLa – Data Literacy Association (DaLa), a proud supporting organization of the event. I was delighted to have encountered familiar faces among the members of the judging panel like Mingles Tsoi, Jaff Lau, Jimmy Tao , Andy Li, Michael T. B. Chan, Johnny Chan, Anita Chau, Carman Chan, Ricky Lee, Bond Chan and a few others.

I extend my warmest congratulations to Cindy Chow, Teddy Lui, and the entire team at Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund for their exceptional work. Year after year, we witness remarkable progress, innovation, and groundbreaking ideas, and it fills us with gratitude and appreciation. Your achievements have brought immense pride to the startup ecosystem of Hong Kong.

It has been a pleasure collaborating with you all since the inception of AEF. I eagerly look forward to many more fruitful collaborations in the years to come.

There’s no better way to gain insights into entrepreneurship and startups than by tapping into the knowledge of Israel, often referred to as the “Startup Nation.” Tonight, our CityU DBA alumni and students, and PolyU DBA’s friends had the privilege of sharing a dinner with Mr. Amir Lati, the Consul General of Israel to Hong Kong and Macau.

Being actively involved in the innovation and technology ecosystem, it was a true honor for me to meet Mr. Lati. During our conversation, I took the opportunity to inquire about the lessons we can learn from Israel and how we can foster a thriving startup culture in Hong Kong, similar to what Israel has achieved. I gained valuable insights from his responses. Heartfelt thank to Mr. Lati for his sharing.

Here are the three key takeaways from our discussion:

1. Early cultivation of a startup mindset through STEM education is crucial, not only for young children but also for their parents. Besides traditional professions like doctors, accountants, and engineers, there are exciting career paths available for the younger generation in the world of startups.

2. Attracting great startups to Hong Kong requires more than just promotional efforts. We need to provide compelling reasons for startups to choose Hong Kong, such as market potential, strategic partnerships, and other favorable conditions. By creating these incentives, we can attract high-quality startups to our city.

3. Hong Kong continues to serve as an excellent gateway to mainland China. Given the vastness of the Chinese market, foreign startups are often more familiar with Hong Kong and its business environment. We should embrace our role as a superconnector, bridging the gap between Israel and mainland China, and facilitating collaboration between the two.

We’re delighted to have joined forces with our PolyU DBA friends for this enlightening dinner. I extend my gratitude to Dr. Rajeev Chib and Prof. L Lam for organizing this event. It was a pleasure to reconnect with my fellow CityU DBA friends and have the opportunity to meet new acquaintances from PolyU DBA.

I am confident that our cross-university DBA collaboration (500+ DBA graduates as of today plus current students) will generate significant synergy, enabling us to bring about greater business and social impact in Hong Kong. I eagerly look forward to future collaborations with all of you as we progress on this journey.
