What a way to start our 2023! A group of elite FinTech start-ups and leaders from Hong Kong joined me for a RegTech forum today in China Construction Bank Training Centre in Hong Kong. Hundreds of CCB colleagues in various cities of China have participated it online and offline.

This was my 1st event in 2023 and was indeed a great start. Meeting good friends first time this year was just wonderful and warm especially it was f2f. Also, the forum was very fruitful to learn more about RegTech innovation, applications, challenges and best practices in different countries. We also explored how Chinese banks like CCB can leverage Hong Kong experience in regulation and compliance plus the strong drive of FinTech by our regulators and government.

Really appreciate Victor Yim #Cyberport to share his experience at the beginning and all other panel speakers 鄭嘉泓 #WizpressoEmil Chan #AereveJacob Wai, FRM, FFA FIPA, FCMA, CSDP, MHKCS, LLM, MBA #DeloitteWallace Chow #FCCAnalytics, and William Lam #FundingReach. Also, big thank for CCB Training Centre’s colleagues and my teammates’ support.

It has been three years since I visited CCB Training Centre last time because of the pandemic. Once the mainland-HK border reopens on Jan 8, 2023, I am sure we will be there more often. We all hope not just everything is back to normal, but also more FinTech collaboration and value co-creation between HK FinTech ecosystem and mainland banks.

Grateful to have joined the 62nd Annual Dinner of #FHKI last night. Most of the top government officials, including Chief Executive Mr. John Lee and ITIB Secretary Professor Sun Dong, and FHKI leaders, including Chairman Dr. Sunny Chai, and all key Chairpersons in the Innovation and Technology ecosystem, including #ASTRI Sunny Lee, #LSMC Dr. Alan Lam#Cyberport Simon Chan, #HKSTP Dr. Sunny Chai, #HKPC Sunny Tan, and more were there. Really full of stars🌟🌟 #星光熠熠 there.

Really feel thankful and honour being a ExCo Member and Chief Mentor of the Startup Council of FHKI under the leadership of Jason Chiu together with a team of veterans in the innovation, technology and industry ecosystem. As now we have the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau #ITIB, the Startup Council can and will contribute even more to bridge the #industrialists and tech #startup #entrepreneurs. Glad to sit down and have a chance to chat with Simon Chan, the new Chairman of Hong Kong #Cyberport. Simon is an experienced banker and has been contributing to the #innovation and #technology#ecosystem in public and private sectors for decades.

We explored different strategies and best practices in Hong Kong and worldwide innovation and technology hubs. More importantly, we shared how to empower our current and future #startups and #entrepreneurs.

We discussed the trends of #FinTech#MetaVerse#AI#BigData#DigitalTransformation for traditional enterprises and more. I also shard my book #數碼力大提升 with him. It was fruitful and insightful discussion.

Thanks Simon. We look forward to seeing more impactful initiatives from Cyberport to Hong Kong with your leadership. Will be there to collaborate and support.

Glad to catch up with Cally Chan GM, #Microsoft Hong Kong, to exchange ideas on the innovation and technology ecosystem and how we can collaborate to co-contribute more to Hong Kong. It was a meaningful discussion. Appreciate that, Cally.

Cally and I have things crossing over each other. Cally is one of our elite #CUHK#EMBA alumni and I am now a professor and associate director of our EMBA programme in CUHK. We are both very passionate in enpowering the #innovation and #technology ecosystem, in particular #startups and #entrepreneurs, in Hong Kong. Will continue to co-creating values for the ecosystem.

Learned a lot today from the #MetaVerse practitioners in town in the 2nd forum of our “All About MetaVerse Series”. The main theme today was MetaVerse Strategies for #Brands#SMEs and #Entrepreneurs. I am so grateful to be the moderator of this series. More episodes will come shortly. Stay tuned with HKPC #Innopreneur vForum. My post on the 1st episode of this series can be found here. https://lnkd.in/dusKJYeA

Big thanks to our guest speakers Lorraine Cheung #YahooChris Wang #AWSKevin K T Lee #Redspots and Henry Chu #PillnPillow. Two of them are entrepreneurs and the other two are platform providers. That enabled us to discuss this topic from a more balanced perspective.

We discussed from MetaVerse opportunities, challenges to technologies, platforms, talents requirement and future skills. MetaVerse is not a hype but the direction is still being shaped. It is very early so everyone gets a chance but we need to keep learning and be open minded.

In essence, there are a few things that we need to strike a balance in order to make the best out of this unprecdented opportunity for the decade – MetaVerse.

1. The next 5 to 10 years will have lots of opportunities. By 2030, the market is going to reach 5 trillion USD globally. At same time, lots of regulations and governance needed to be in place to balance the opportunities and potential problems.

2. We have more opportunities from scalability to the global markets but at the same time competitions from global players.

3. New digital skills will be required but soft skills, like problem solving, communication, project management are equally important.

4. #Data analytics, #MachineLearning and #AI are crucial now and even more pivotal in the MetaVerse for customer experience and engagement.

5. SMEs are lack of resources and talents but lots of good partners in the MetaVerse ecosystem that they can leverage on.

6. Keep trying and learning to get started but be aware of the risks like losing Crypto from your hot wallets.

Lots more to come. See you in our 3rd MetaVerse episode soon. Have a good ride in your MetaVerse journey.

Thanks to Karen F.Elly Yip and their teammates #HKPCDr. Angus Ho #HKIM and Annie Yeung #Vootprint for their great effort to make this forum happened.

Remember my years in the US, I always got the fortune cookies from the local Chinese restaurants. Today, I got one in one of the best restaurants in Hong Kong. More importantly, it has further inspired me the importance of #DREAM.

The message inside my fortune cookies said, “In dreams and in life, nothing is impossible.”

I hope many of you much younger than me to keep on chasing your dreams especially in the #innovation and #technology ecosystem. Tons of opportunities for you and the sky is the only limit. #GOGOX has just listed in the Hong Kong main board. Their founders started with only HK$20K. It was a miracle and a legend but the power of dreams of the #founders and #entrepreneurs did matter a lot.

Keep it going. Many of the #Unicorns and even #Decacorns are yet to come.

We had a very fruitful discussion with #eCommerce leaders and #entrepreneurs today. It is a part of the #Innopreneur Forum series organized by #HKPC. The Innopreneur Network aims to connect #SMEs with innovators and practitioners.

The main theme this time was “Successful eCommerce Strategies in the New Normal”. I have moderated 2 online discussion panels with the following guests.

To deliver successful eCommerce, there are quite a few challenges that we need to overcome like #Marketing#O2O integration, #Logistics#Warehousing#CrossBorder#Cost#Speed#DataAnalytics#DataPrivacy#DigitalReadiness#Financing#CashFlow and more.

Fortunately, we have built a vibrant eCommerce #ecosystem in Hong Kong. Merchants and SMEs can focus on marketing and #innovation. For the rest of these challenges, they can leverage the respective partners in the ecosystem. In the last 6 years, Hong Kong has cultivated 4,000+ #startups and 10+ #unicorns. They have been making pivotal impact and significant contribution to our society in this chaotic pandemic period.

After all, building trust among stakeholders in the ecosystem is key for success. We all learned a lot from the guest speakers. If you would like to watch the replay, please visit this webpage in a few days: https://lnkd.in/gbf7KMRV

Thanks 香港生產力促進局 #HKPCAcademy#HKPCInnoSpace#SMEOneKaren F.Elly YipDAPHNE HO and many unsung heros behind the scene for organizing it. Also, appreciate all supporting organizations.

Glad that I had another opportunity to collaborate with Michelle #魏美珍#MetroFinance Radio #新城財經台 again after being one of the judges for their 2021 GBA Insurance Award. https://lnkd.in/gVNushbr. The 2022 GBA Insurance Award is coming. Find out more here https://lnkd.in/g9YFT-V9

In the coming episode of the #財智雙打 (or Financial Wisdom Duo) programme hosted by Michelle and the well-known investment expert #青姐#吳孟青 on Sun Mar 13 from 4pm to 5pm, I will share my insights on the #startups in Hong Kong. I have been cultivating quite a few startups in different stages as well as #intrapreneurs within enterprises. There are some interesting findings that I will talk about #entrepreneurs#entrepreneurship and #intrapreneurship in the show.

Stay tuned to #FM104 then.

Congrats to #AECOM Hong Kong to successfully launch its 1st #FastTrack #CityHack #Hackathon. It is the first stop of the AECOM’s hackathon series in Asia. Hong Kong is proud to be the first location showcasing how innovation empowers a smart city.

The AECOM’s #FastTrackCityHack is a two and a half days in-person hackathon and competition on December 3 – 5, 2021. It aims to inspire and drive the development of practicable, forward-looking solutions for a better urban future. It has 3 main streams for the participants to innovate for a #SmartCity#Resilience#CarbonZero and #DigitalEcosystem. Hundreds of students and entrepreneurs joined the hackathons and selected ones are now working hard in AECOM’s office to compete for the award.

Thanks Thomson Lai AECOM’s Asia Digital Leader for inviting me as a keynote speaker to get the passionate participants even more inspired for the hackathon. I chose the topic – “#Entrepreneurs: From Good to Great”. The participants are all good entrepreneurs already but what could differentiate them from good to great entrepreneurs. Solving the right problems right is the key. Appreciate #AECOMHK organizing such an impactful hackathon for Hong Kong and the great support from Madison Wai of Hill+Knowlton Strategies.

Our momentum on I&T in Hong Kong is unprecedented. Let’s transform #FromGoodToGreat. Keep it going!
