Glad to kickoff my first review meeting in 2023 with HairCoSys’ core team in my office today. HairCoSys aims to make use of AI to sustainably fix hair loss problems for many people with this pain point around the world. It is a big problem and it is a huge market. We reviewed what we have achieved, rooms for improvement and plan for 2023.

HairCoSys has just started last year. Really grateful to be their president and advisor and contribute my experience and networks for their growth. Appreciate the leadership from Michael Wong and the data science experience from Ivan Ng, and the effort from our passionate teammates there.

In a short period of time, HairCoSys has received good recognition from the industry. We have successfully been admitted to not only HKSTP Incubation Programme, but also Hong Kong AI Lab Programme. Both are reputable and solid programmes on cultivating elite #startups. What a year! We shall keep up our great effort and make more breakthrough in 2023 and beyond. Add oil, team.

Congratulations to all the winners of the Best HR Awards 2022 organized by CTGoodJobs. Grateful being one of the judges and speakers for the Awards again. My OpenCertHub Academy team fully supported the ceremony this year. Thanks Vivienne WongShirley Pi, William Ho, Reo Lam and their teammates to organize such a great award ceremony. We enjoyed our great collaboration and teamwork with the CTGoodJobs team.

I particularly appreciate this Awards because it has pioneered quite a few award categories to encourage HR leaders to cultivate digital transformation and innovation initiatives and talent to their organizations.

In this year, Data Literacy Association #DaLa www.DaLaHK.org , which was founded by a number of data leaders and I to nurture data culture in large to small organizations, jointly with CTGoodJobs created a new category called Data Literacy Award. It aims to encourage establishing data culture and enabling pervasive use of data in organizations to unleash the power of data to every employee. Congratulations to The Bank of East Asia #BEA to receive the 1st ever Grand Award of this category in Hong Kong. Really appreciate the great team effort from their FinTech, Data and Training and Development teams. Congratulations Stephen L. Kenny Au, and Doris Tong. My OpenCertHub teammates are so fortune to collaborate with the BEA team to empower their colleagues at all levels of the bank to speak the language of data.

Also happy for many HR leaders in town like Fanny Chan from China Everbright Bank Hong Kong #CEBHKEliza Ng #HKPCEdmund Lam #FubonBankDerek Wu #LKK, and many others for their amazing achievement. Also good to see young leaders like CY Chan #ECHealthCareBobo WongMichelle Chan #MicrosoftMingo Tsang #Bowtie and more. They are with bright minds and our future as well.

As I mentioned in my talk on “Data Literacy – Build Future-proof Workforce with Second Business Language”, Digital Transformation not only needs digital experts but also HR experts as change management and culture play a pivot role in its success. Teamwork between digital teammates and HR teammates are super important. Had a very good chat with Kandy Lui #iHRM and learnt a lot from her on the HR profession and it’s latest development. Also learnt from José Carlos Bezanilla on how to make Hong Kong a Great Place to Work #GPTW.

My belief is that empowering people to do fishing is always better than serving them fish all the time. Our data and IT professionals have been doing a great job to help busness users to prepare reports and analytics so that the users can make better decisions, actions and even predictions. In the highly competitive envirnoment in the digital economy, doing this is simply not good enough to stay relevant.

That’s why we OpenCertHub Academy #OCHA www.ochacademy.com, a passionate and experienced team on data science and data culture, design our Data Literacy Empowerment Programme #DLEP to empower leaders and users at all levels across the whole organizations in major industries, such as financial services, property, transportation, utility, retail and so on, to speak the 2nd business language – Data. What it means is that everyone communicates, argues and wins with data as a habit in their daily conversation, meetings and tasks. We understand customers, seize opportunities and tackle problems through the smart use of data.

We aim to nurture and change the data culture of the organizations through training, data forums with industry experts and startups, cross-team data projects, community and more. Really grateful and thankful to see BEA to have a visionary leadership to go along with us in this journey of data culture transformation. We cultivated a group of Citizen Data Scientists (CDS) as the change agents to drive data culture change in their respective departments. We also have trained over hundreds of Data Citizens (DC) who now have the data mindset to use data more often in their daily jobs. The journey continues and more to come.

We thank for the trust from BEA senior management to us and have us as their trusted companion in the Data Literacy Empowerment journey. Really appreciate the collaboration and teamwork from BEA’s Data Team Kenny Au, FinTech & IT Team Stephen L. and Training & Development Team Doris Tong, and their bright teammates. Thank you! With their effort and support, we did build a very solid foundation and mutual trust to grow better and faster in 2023 and beyond. Look forward to sharing more experience with you all next year.

Finally completed the “Data Monetization Strategy: Creating Value Through Data” program organized by MIT Sloan School of Management 美國麻省理工大學斯隆商學院. It was one of the best data strategy programs in the recent few years. Even I have solid experience and background on AI and Big Data, I found that this program provides very relevant practices to monetize our data asset.

Big thanks to Dr. Barb Wixom‘s sharing and effort to put together this insightful program for us. My classmates or learning partners were from all over the world but we have a common goal to find the best way to monetize data. We formed a cross-country, cross-company and cross-function community and had lots of forums in the program to exchange views on relevant topics. That was one of the best parts in the program.

The course was not that easy as we might think of. It took me a few months to go through a series of modules and assignments. However, it is worth spending effort on this course out of my already-packed schedule.

The program had quite strict requirement to grant the certification to the participants and really tested my knowledge and persistence. My drive is that we are not just learning a new technology. To stay relevant in today’s digitally-disruptive world, we got to have the mindset to keep learning and innovating. Grateful that I did it and was granted the certificate.

My key takeaway is that it takes more than data and technology to monetize data effectively. Democratizing data literacy to everyone at all business levels and empowering them with data mindset are critical for data monetization success. That is what my team and I at OpenCertHub Academy have been empowering quite a few enterprises in Asia to do so.

Grateful to have Dr. Victor Ng to co-deliver our joint AI for Financial Services course to ICBC (Asia) at CUHK today. Really appreciate the full-day presence of Miss Gao, the Chairman and Executive Director of ICBC(Asia) together with their senior management. That was an excellent Lead-by-Example for all leaders. Dr. Ng and I have designed a Data Literacy Empowerment Programme #DLEP to empower all levels of colleagues in organizations to speak data. Today, I shared about how AI applies to financial services with real cases and examples worldwide while Dr. Ng cultivated the participants on data culture and mindset through experiential exercises. We have been doing it for many enterprises especially banks. What a practical combination to illustrate how leading enterprise is making good use of data to win the hearts of their customers. The most impressive and rewarding part for me and Dr. Ng was the sharing from our students about their findings and suggestions from their team exercises. More importantly, their own data mindset has changed and they appreciate even more to use data to solve problems. Thanks to all for your effort. It takes not only IT team effort but also collaboration with data-literate colleagues at all business levels. Senior management’s determination on nurturing a data culture is very important but it is not enough. Pervasive use of data across the enterprise is the key for success. To unlock the values of data, not only IT and Data teams need to do a good job, all others need to see the values of data in their daily jobs and use data as their business language every day.

Hang Seng Bank is a great example and one of the pioneers in Hong Kong to go along this direction. Patrick is leading this change and empowering majority of their workforce on data literacy. Jacob and Calvin shared practical approaches to achieve this goal. Alex has also started this journey at Sun Life HK. This direction also aligns well with my vision and experience. Congratulations to OpenCertHub Academy on reaching another key milestone. Apart from onboarding a few influential enterprises to our Data Literacy Empowerment Programme in the last 12 months, we have moved to our new office. Glad to sit down and have a chance to chat with Simon Chan, the new Chairman of Hong Kong #Cyberport. Simon is an experienced banker and has been contributing to the #innovation and #technology#ecosystem in public and private sectors for decades.

We explored different strategies and best practices in Hong Kong and worldwide innovation and technology hubs. More importantly, we shared how to empower our current and future #startups and #entrepreneurs.

We discussed the trends of #FinTech#MetaVerse#AI#BigData#DigitalTransformation for traditional enterprises and more. I also shard my book #數碼力大提升 with him. It was fruitful and insightful discussion.
