These individuals not only possess an unwavering passion and innovative spirit but also embody humility, positivity, and openness.

One outstanding example of such an entrepreneur is David B. Wang, (KripHK krip HK). They have received the Grand Award of 2023 Hong Kong ICT Awards. I feel incredibly privileged and appreciative to be presented with multiple valuable opportunities to contribute to the advancement of Macau in both the Technology and Education sectors.

In 2023, I was appointed by the Macau SAR Government as a member of the Technology Council, which is led by the Chief Executive of Macau. Additionally, starting from 2024, I have also been appointed as a member of the Advisory Board for the Business School of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).

Over the past decade, I have actively shared my expertise in innovation and technology with various companies, universities, and associations in Macau. These recent appointments in Macau have provided me with even more opportunities to engage with influential leaders in the government, regulators, prominent enterprises, talented entrepreneurs, and students.

As a result, I will be spending more time in Macau and Hengqin, actively collaborating with like-minded individuals in the innovation and technology industry, business sectors, universities, and government. Let’s find ways to collaborate more in Macau.

I am pleased to announce that my next speaking engagement in Macau will take place on February 3 in Galaxy GICC, organized by the CUHK EMBA program. The topic of my talk will be “Navigating Innovation Failure: Valuable Insights for Business Leaders.” I extend a warm invitation for you to join me at the event. Our EMBA graduate Winson C. W. from Macau will join me to share more with you. For further details, please find more information. I look forward to seeing you there.

As the President of the Hong Kong Internet of Things Industry Advisory Council of  GS1 Hong Kong, I had the privilege of delivering the opening remarks at our inaugural IOT-Data Hackathon launch ceremony yesterday. Our primary goal is to foster collaboration among enterprises, startups, students and tech leaders to address real-world challenges using IoT and data solutions. We have picked Smart City and Smart Supply Chain as the main focus of our hackathon for problem statements and innovation co-creation this year. For more information, please visit https://lnkd.in/g8p3f3ts.

We are incredibly grateful for the immense support we have received from various enterprises. Companies such as Parknshop, Airport Authority of Hong Kong, MTR, Chow Tai Fook, HKT, Yoshinoya and others have generously provided problem statements, data, and mentoring assistance for this hackathon. Additionally,  OGCIO,  HKSTP, and  Cyberport have extended their full support by offering access to data, technology, and their ideation and incubation programs. It is rare opportunity to have such a rich set of data across industries,  OpenData from OGCIO and  SpatialData from the Lands Department in a hackathon. It is an excellent initiative and collaboration for nurturing Hong Kong’s  DataEconomy.

Prominent technology providers like  Google,  Checkpoint,  Alibaba, are also contributing by providing training and support to the participants. We are particularly excited to witness how the participants leverage the latest Gemini  LLM from Google and the valuable data from enterprises and government to innovate and develop solutions for real-world problems.

The overwhelming number of applications we have already received is truly astounding. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the 2024 IoT-Data Hackathon Organizing Committee, led by Sean TAN  Jebsen and Patrick Tsang  CTF, for their dedication in ensuring the success of this hackathon program. None of this would have been possible without the full support from  GS1HK team led by Anna Lin and Mignone Cheng and our supporting organizations, including  DaLa,  B4B,  IOTHK,  Preface,  DTA,  Nectardata, major universities, and many others. Excellently done, team.

Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the hackathon. The final presentation will take place at the prestigious Hong Kong Digital Economy Summit  DES in April 2024. We look forward to seeing you there.

Great start for 2024! My first sharing session in 2024 was very valuable, leaving a positive impact on not only the audiences but also myself. I had the privilege of delivering an inspirational sharing session at the Management Forum of Chun Wo Development Holdings Limited Chun Wo Development Group, one of Hong Kong’s top construction companies.

The forum, led by their Chairman Dominic Pang and CEO Derrick Pang, was attended by senior and middle-level managers. I am grateful for their invitation. Appreciate the valuable questions from the participants in the Q&A session. Their questions were brilliant and highly relevant. We did have a meaningful discussion. Thanks Samuel Hon and my teammates Victor Ng and Andy Kwok for their support.

The focus of my presentation was “Data Advantage in Construction: Driving Profitability, Productivity, and Safety.” I shared three key messages:

1. Embracing a “Never Not My Job” Mindset:
I began by sharing an inspiring quote from WeLab WeLab – “Never Not My Job.” I emphasized that data is not solely the responsibility of IT and data professionals; it is everyone’s business. Users, as consumers of data, play a crucial role in harnessing the power of data analytics.

2. Unlocking the Compound Benefits of Data Literacy:
I conveyed that data literacy does not require complex analysis skills. Rather, it signifies the ability of every individual to use data in their daily problem-solving. By fostering a culture of data literacy, we can maximize the compound effect that arises from widespread data usage.

3. Realizing Data Value through Discovering Use Cases:
While data insights, reports, and KPIs displayed on dashboards are valuable, they merely mark the beginning of the Data Monetization journey. I stressed the importance of empowering every member of the organization to create use cases for data and align them with overall company, department, and individual goals.

At OpenCertHub Academy OpenCertHub Academy, we have developed the Data Literacy Empowerment Programme (DLEP) https://ochacademy.com/ with the aim of equipping individuals across various industries, including  FinancialServices,  Property,  Retail,  Transportation,  Utility,  Construction  Health,  Government and more with data literacy mindset and skillset. We are delighted that our DLEP approach has been embraced and look forward to further empowering companies in Hong Kong, mainland China, and ASEAN, helping them develop a data mindset and culture to effectively seize the data advantage and monetize data.

We are pleased to announce that the 2nd CUHK Corporate Innovation Index (CII) is now underway. We will soon invite both large corporations and SMEs to participate in our revised survey, which aims to assess their level of innovation and identify areas for improvement.
https://lnkd.in/g3GB3-sF

To ensure the effectiveness of our survey, we conducted a pilot study where corporates and SMEs had the opportunity to review and provide feedback on our survey design and questions today at the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) 香港總商會HKGCC. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the participants like Teddy Liu, Nike Kong, Mingles Tsoi, for their support and valuable input during this process.

In addition to the pilot study, we were honored to have two esteemed entrepreneurs, 鄭嘉泓 (Wizpresso) and Queenie So (SyZyGy), who shared their invaluable experiences ininnovation andentrepreneurship. I have had the privilege of observing and offering guidance to both Calvin and Queenie since they embarked on their entrepreneurial journey a few years ago. It is truly gratifying to witness their growth and remarkable accomplishments.

During the session, we discussed the challenges faced by startups, including the “Death Valley”. We are grateful to our moderators, Patrick S Lee and Professor Dominic Chan, for facilitating the insightful discussions.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our colleagues at CUHK  APIB, led by Professor Waiman Cheung and our Strategic Partner HKGCC, led by Patrick Yeung and Dr. Wendy Lam, for their contributions to this project. While we have just begun, we are confident that the best is yet to come. Stay tuned for more updates on  CII.
