As the President of the Hong Kong Internet of Things Industry Advisory Council of GS1 Hong Kong, I had the privilege of delivering the opening remarks at our inaugural IOT-Data Hackathon launch ceremony yesterday. Our primary goal is to foster collaboration among enterprises, startups, students and tech leaders to address real-world challenges using IoT and data solutions. We have picked Smart City and Smart Supply Chain as the main focus of our hackathon for problem statements and innovation co-creation this year. We are incredibly grateful for the immense support we have received from various enterprises. Companies such as Parknshop, Airport Authority of Hong Kong, MTR, Chow Tai Fook, HKT, Yoshinoya and others have generously provided problem statements, data, and mentoring assistance for this hackathon. Additionally, OGCIO, HKSTP, and Cyberport have extended their full support by offering access to data, technology, and their ideation and incubation programs. It is rare opportunity to have such a rich set of data across industries, OpenData from OGCIO and SpatialData from the Lands Department in a hackathon. It is an excellent initiative and collaboration for nurturing Hong Kong’s DataEconomy.
Prominent technology providers like Google, Checkpoint, Alibaba, are also contributing by providing training and support to the participants. We are particularly excited to witness how the participants leverage the latest Gemini LLM from Google and the valuable data from enterprises and government to innovate and develop solutions for real-world problems.
The overwhelming number of applications we have already received is truly astounding. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the 2024 IoT-Data Hackathon Organizing Committee, led by Sean TAN Jebsen and Patrick Tsang CTF, for their dedication in ensuring the success of this hackathon program. None of this would have been possible without the full support from GS1HK team led by Anna Lin and Mignone Cheng and our supporting organizations, including DaLa, B4B, IOTHK, Preface, DTA, Nectardata, major universities, and many others. Excellently done, team.
Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the hackathon. The final presentation will take place at the prestigious Hong Kong Digital Economy Summit DES in April 2024. We look forward to seeing you there.
