Thanks for Edmund Lee and his teammates at #HKDC Hong Kong Design Centre to organize this year’s #KODW Knowledge of Design Week with theme on Designing Digital Future. It is a hybrid of virtual and physical conference with renowed #design and #digital experts around the globe as speakers.

Edmund’s team really gave us an excellent example of what the HK Design Centre always empowers us i.e. #CustomerCentricity. I can feel the details and processes that his team has been putting together to run this conference and helping every speaker and panelist in such a difficult period under Covid-19. Well done and appreciate it, team.

My discussion with Romeo Durscher from #DJI was very fruitful. One of the key takeaways for me is how his company connects many experts in #Drone#AI#MachineLearning and #BigData around the world through #Crowdsourcing and #SharingEconomy to build innovative models, technologies and applications to solve lots of problems in natural disasters, safety, health, etc.

For all #innovators and #entrepreneurs, while we may make money from our innovations, it is more important how we can make use of technologies to save lives and do social good. Great lesson today. Thanks Romeo.

The Annual Knowledge of Design Week #KODW will be live next week (Aug 26 to Aug 29). The annual event has been one of the best conferences in Hong Kong to learn #innovation and #design from experts worldwide. The theme this year is #DesigningDigitalFutures.

As a digital advocate, I am really glad to see more cross-over collaboration between the digital world and the design world. Here it is. Thanks Dr. Edmund Lee and his team at #HKDC #HongKongDesignCentre to organize such a great knowledge exchange week. You can find out more here.

It is a challenging time for any industry leaders in the #DigitalAge when they are competing with new digital leaders instead of traditional rivals.

How to transform a 90 years old company to sustain their industry #leadership & seize the emerging opportunities from the #DigitalEconomy was the main theme that 80+ senior managers across different regions & functions of #ChowTaiFook #Jewellery Group https://lnkd.in/eAxk8iV & I discussed through both Zoom and in person today.

Chow Tai Fook has a great #culture of #innovation in the #NewRetail industry such as award winning #TMark#SmartTray, etc. but we all agreed that a lot more can be learned from the #techgiants#unicorns #startups and other industry #innovators. We explored several potential #businessmodels that could bring in asset-light businesses driven by #platform and #bigdata to the group. We also talked about the best practices of corporate #intrapreneurship such as #LeanStartup#OpenInnovation, etc.

Appreciate that the participants actively engaged & shared their views. We did have a fruitful discussion. I learned a lot from all of them as well. Thanks for the leadership from MD Kent Wong https://lnkd.in/e2kJmHS & Bobby Liu Quentin Wong Flora Ho Jessica Tam Vicky Chiu & all who participated today.

Digital Leadership Training Series:
The Power Duo of AI & Big Data

數字領導力培訓系列:
「數字經濟的雙引擎:人工智能與大數據」課程

WHAT IS THE POWER DUO OF AI & BIG DATA?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is only possible with big data, because we need a tremendous amount of data to “teach” or “train” AI systems. As its name suggests, AI has a form of intelligence of its own. It figures out which rules to follow based on the data that we feed them.

An AI application doesn’t just do what it’s been programmed to do. AI can go further than that. It responds to changing information and makes adjustment based on what it learns as it goes along. AI differs from supercomputers and other systems with powerful computing capabilities in one important way. AI systems are capable of not just computing, but actual learning — machine learning. The more data you give these machine learning networks and the more computational capability you give them, the better the result becomes because the results of previous machine-learning exercises can be fed back into the algorithms.

ASEAN countries are ramping up to seize the AI and BigData opportunities. For instance, according to a latest IDC report, AI will nearly DOUBLE the rate of INNOVATION in MALAYSIA by 2021. https://lnkd.in/fm_kaXS.  A strong demand of AI and Big Data technical and business talents are there in ASEAN.  OpenCertHub www.opencerthub.com has launched its partnership program in  KL on Sep 24,  2019 to collaborate with training institutes, universities, consulting firms, government agencies, recruitment firms, etc., to authenticate and certify AI and Big Data talents. We received great responses from Malaysia’s AI and Big Data ecosystem and have already moved forward with key partners in KL. Special thanks to MD of  KnowledgeSociety Selva Nagappan, Senior Data Scientist of MDEC ADAX Dr. Poo Kuan Hoong, GAIN Global AI Network in Malaysia and Pauline Goh from InvestKL for their support. We are also working on other ASEAN countries especially Singapore , Thailandand Vietnam. If you were in the AI and Big Data ecosystem of these countries, we are happy to collaborate with you. Cheers.

Apart from GreaterBayArea, SouthEastAsia is another uprising region in the vibrant Asia. We are both ramping up our talents to prepare for AI & BigData Era. The Mission of OpenCertHub is to democratize data literacy and capabilities to everyone so that we are ready to take up new jobs created by AI instead of being replaced. We need not just DataScientist but also CitizenDataScientist. “Reskill Everyone for the Unprecedented DataEconomy” is the main theme of our upcoming workshop in KualaLumpur Malaysia on Sep 24 pm. It is our honour to co-organize it with GAIN Global Artificial Intelligence Network in Malaysia. It is a conjunction with the NextBigTech Asia 2019 conference organized by MDEC in KL last week. https://lnkd.in/frzHw3n We welcome partners and enterprises to join us to explore how we can collaborate to furthur strengthen the Data Economy in Malaysia. Please see the details on the poster below and the QR code for registration details. We will continue collaborating with SE Asia’s AI and big data ecosystem. See you soon. To learn more about the concept of the big data democratization, please read one of my interviews on the capacity of the Chairman of OpenCertHub. “Data Quotient” (DQ) – New Competence in the Digital Age https://lnkd.in/fwqbUff

China Human Capital Forum 2019 was successfully held in Yantai 烟台 in TsingTao China. 1,000+ CEO and HR professionals joined the forum. Keynote speakers were experts in digital transformation, future workforce, digital leadership, etc. It was my honour to be one of them to share my experience on #DigitalStrategy for Traditional Enterprise. Lesson learned is that there is an urgency to #Reskill our colleagues in the AI Era. CEO and HR of leading enterprises are well aware of the storm of #DigitalDisruption. They are proactively reskilling their colleagues to best capitalize what digital can offer them. One example is #AIAugmentation  #人智 where human work with  robots to gain competitive advantages over the laggards. These companies have created new AI positions and retrain their staff on AI BigData and DataQuotient to take up these new jobs. Have we reskilled yet?

From their National BigData Analytics Framework to now NationalAI Framework, Malaysia MDEC has been proactively to transform their country to be a DataEconomy. I have participated in their largest AI & Big Data Annual Conference nextbigtechasia https://lnkd.in/ezEXEbr On behalf of OpenCertHub, I was glad to have a chat with the MDEC CEO Surina Shukri and Head of Data Economy Dr. Karl Ng there to see how we can collaborate to cultivate a platform to authenticate and certify AI and Big Data talents to fuel the rapid growth of the data economy in Malaysia. I also shared our experience in Hong Kong and mainland China on how we collaborate with the training institutes, universities, corporates, AI & big data companies & experts, recruitment professionals to nurture AI & big data talents. Our common mission is to democratize data literacy to the mass. AI is going to replace a lot of jobs but at the same create a lot of new jobs. Business leaders and professionals, not just IT guys, need to reskill ourselves on data capabilities in order to grow with the data-driven digitaleconomy.  CitizenDataScientist is the way to go. For more, please visit www.opencerthub.com. Really glad to have met many great partners and clients who are interested to collaborate with us.

Towngas is a great learning organization with open culture to keep their teams innovative in the Digital Economy. They have been organizing Techtalks regularly on topics like IOT AI 5G MachineLearning to educate their colleagues at all levels updated on Innovation. They made use of lunch time & Skype to make these available to most staff in different locations. Great effort there. It was my honour to share my experience on BigData with them. Thanks for GM of Corporate IT Susanna Shen inviting me for such a great sharing session. We talked about a few key innovations to make use of big data including Philips,  Michelin, Siemens, Amazon and Alibaba. I use life examples to make this topic understandable to audiences with different backgrounds. I believe it is the key as TechTaks do not have to be RocketScience. Rather, it should bring out how technology relates to what the audiences care like customer experience. Everyone needs to be Citizen Data Scientist and high DataQuotient to make intelligent use of data to compete in today’s digital world. We also discuss Preventive Maintenance on stoves, pipes, Smart Meters to do Smart City AlgorithmaticTrading.  Great to have the discussion to trigger more inspirations. Keep it going TownGas to create more values to us. Thank you.
