CUHK EMBA Class of 2024 Has Just Started

Another great cohort of CUHK EMBA has just started. Welcome to all elite leaders, executives and professionals to join our EMBA Class of 2024.

All of our students had an excellent start in our CUHK EMBA Residence Week. We can see another group of passionate and bright minds this year. This group is also a real demonstration of diversity in our EMBA programme in terms of gender, nationality, industry, profession and character as well.

Thanks to the leadership from Professor Pong Yuen, Howard Lam, and my colleagues Dominic Chan, Chun So and many others behind the scene, to make this week a fruitful and impactful one to everyone.

Heartfelt thank to our master professor and mentor Professor Andrew Chan and our elite alumnus Cally Chan, and Dr. Gilbert Cheung to share their knowledge and experience with us. Appreciate it.

May I wish all students of our CUHK EMBA Class of 2024 to have a joyful, meaningful and fruitful journey in the next 2 years. See you all in my #innovation and #technology class.

Congratulations to the great success of the Hong Kong Institute of Marketing #HKIM Symposium 2022. The main theme this year is The New Frontier of Marketing – Connecting the dots of #MetaVerse. I have moderated 5 forums on MetaVerse in the last 2 months. This is the 6th one and it was inspiring and impressive. MetaVerse experts were there today to share their experience to empower large to small companies to ride on this huge MetaVerse wave. #Sandbox Erich Wong was there as the last speaker to connect all the dots in the space. Other speakers did a great job too. Kevin K T Lee #Redspots, Gabriel K. #AiRMetaVerse, and Peter Lin #BlueArk were all very passionate on what they are doing on MetaVerse. Really thank to HKIM’s invitation to me to moderate such a great panel discussion there. Thanks Dr. Michael Chan, Ivan Wong, Dr. Angus Ho, Lucia Cheung and their teammates to organize such a great event. Appreciate all my panel guests for their insightful sharing Sally Chue #EventX, Rick Woo #LOST, Becky Wong #IndexGame and Jack Lau #Artcoin. Dare to try and transition from Web2 to Web2.5 then Web3 were some key ways to get us engage in this MetaVerse revolution. Do need to consider the social, people and environmental side of the MetaVerse before it becomes uncontrollable. From today’s insight, I start feeling that the Sky is the Only Limit for what we can innovate and achieve in the MetaVerse. A real revolution and tsunami is coming. We had better embrace and capitalize it, and make good use of it as well.

Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival is back. Today was the first day and will continue till Sunday (Aug 21, 2022). This is the third forum of the MetaVerse series of the HKPC #Innopreneur Meetup. Grateful to be the moderator for this series. Thanks to #HKPC Karen F., Elly Yip, their teammates for organizing it. I had Andy Hsu from #Meta, Sze Lok Chan from #AWS, and Sam Hui from #CHKCI in my first forum. We talked about the MetaVerse ecosystem and opportunities for Hong Kong #SMEs. Then, I had 3 innovators on MetaVerse for the 2nd panel. Gabriel K. #AirWorld, Ricky Ng #BetterArena and Dr. Amen Lee #BetterVerse. We talked about the transition from #Web2 to #Web3, social impact on MetaVerse, global expansion through MetaVerse. Excellent innovations on MetaVerse from the elite startups. With the empowerment from Meta, AWS and other leaders, there will be lots of opportunities in hardware, software, applications for many industries, not just #Gaming, #Crypto and #NFTs. Heartfelt thank to all the panel speakers and their insightful sharing. Mckinsey estimated that the MetaVerse market will grow to 5 trillion USD by 2030. The future of MetaVerse is not shaped yet. Hong Kong companies, large or small, startups and even investors will have great opportunities in this decade. Start fast, act fast, fail fast, learn fast and pivot fast. That is the new rule of thumb for success in the digital era.

We aim to inspire and encourage Sun Life colleagues and ecosystem to co-create values for their customers with data. Good panel discussion as well as interaction with the f2f and online audiences.

I am grateful to have experienced AI and data corporate leaders, entrepreneurs and consultants in town as my panel speakers, including Patrick Khong #HASE, Jacob Wai, FRM, FFA FIPA, FCMA, CSDP, MHKCS, LLM, MBA #Deloitte, Calvin Cheng, CFA #Wizpresso and certainly our host Alex Wong #Sunlife. Really appreciate their insightful sharing. Thanks to SunLife Clement Lam Alice Chuck, Shirley Mak, the supporting team and my CUHK teammates today.

It takes not only IT team effort but also collaboration with data-literate colleagues at all business levels. Senior management’s determination on nurturing a data culture is very important but it is not enough. Pervasive use of data across the enterprise is the key for success. To unlock the values of data, not only IT and Data teams need to do a good job, all others need to see the values of data in their daily jobs and use data as their business language every day.

Hang Seng Bank is a great example and one of the pioneers in Hong Kong to go along this direction. Patrick is leading this change and empowering majority of their workforce on data literacy. They are also nurturing a group of citizen data scientists in different units to act as culture carrier to build, empower and sustain data culture. More here https://lnkd.in/g3PXKFYS.

Jacob and Calvin shared practical approaches to achieve this goal. Alex has also started this journey at Sun Life HK. This direction also aligns well with my vision and experience. My teammates from OpenCertHub Academy and CUHK are supporting quite a few companies in Hong Kong, including Hang Seng Bank, to empower their staff to nurture data culture, mindset and skills. OpenCertHub Academy Moved to a New Office!

Congratulations to OpenCertHub Academy on reaching another key milestone. Apart from onboarding a few influential enterprises to our Data Literacy Empowerment Programme in the last 12 months, we have moved to our new office. Our core team did a soft internal launch on a great “lucky” day with some traditional Chinese ceremony. “Pau Pau” bear also joined us. Thanks Ryan Lai #FoodPanda for the super cute bear.

Learned a lot from Edmund on bringing in ESG, Design and Innovation to the Group. With Edmund’s years of experience on product design, innovation and technology, I am sure the Gold Peak Group will reach another peak with his and GP’s C-suite leadership.

We also shared how important for leaders these days to empower everyone in the organization to be data literate. Edmund said, “Who in the world don’t need data literacy these days”. Edmund and his teammates have been changing their data mindset. Rather than just communicating using their expertise, they have also asked and used data to back things up. That really endorsed what we have been doing to empower enterprises in Hong Kong to speak, think and act on #data. Thanks Edmund to endorse our belief.

Glad to sit down and have a chance to chat with Simon Chan, the new Chairman of Hong Kong #Cyberport. Simon is an experienced banker and has been contributing to the #innovation and #technology#ecosystem in public and private sectors for decades.

We explored different strategies and best practices in Hong Kong and worldwide innovation and technology hubs. More importantly, we shared how to empower our current and future #startups and #entrepreneurs.

We discussed the trends of #FinTech, #MetaVerse, #AI, #BigData, #DigitalTransformation for traditional enterprises and more. I also shard my book #數碼力大提升 with him. It was fruitful and insightful discussion.
