After almost 3 years of the Covid, our lives are gradually back to normal, at least, close to it. I am so grateful that I could meet with my EMBA students not only f2f in class (with masks), but also in causal dinners (without masks and with smiles) as well. I had a few dinners with different teams in my Corporate Innovation course in the last few weeks. Apart from discussing about innovation and technology, we talked about almost everything. I have a very good diversity in my class this year with business owners, corporate leaders from different industries, entrepreneurs and professionals like doctors, lawyers, accountants and engineers. That is an excellent mix to learn innovation. Really enjoyed our gatherings and understood a lot more about their lives and works. We all learned a lot more than in the classrooms. What a class! What a memory! Thanks to my fellow students. Appreciate Dop Sun, Rachel Yu and Vincent Wong https://lnkd.in/gdH2YRny and a few other fellow students to organize such great gatherings. Hope the Covid is really getting away from us and we all can have more personal touch. It really matters and technology simply cannot replace it. My CUHK MBA students have presented their group projects on innovation management today. Really appreciate their great effort and teamwork on preparing the presentation.
Pleased to see that my class has a good mix of international, mainland and Hong Kong students. They were from Europe, US, Russia, India, Japan, mainland China and Hong Kong. That diversity brought in a lot of innovatoon, energy and in fact fun as well. Thanks for Grace Liang and her CUHK MBA teammates to select such a high quality of elite leaders to be my students.
I asked my students to treat the group presentation as a MVP (Minimum Viable Product) of their projects where I can give them feedback and they can make changes before submitting their next MVP which is the final report. That helped them practise MVP approach to innovate progressively and iteratively with customer-first mindset.
Inspiring my students to think out of the box and innovate for sustainable growth is my goal. A few students shared with me that they really got inspired and learned something valuable to their work and career. With that, all my preparation and efforts are worth it. Will keep up to improve and empower more innovative leaders for our society.

Another great cohort of CUHK EMBA has just started. Welcome to all elite leaders, executives and professionals to join our EMBA Class of 2024.
All of our students had an excellent start in our CUHK EMBA Residence Week. We can see another group of passionate and bright minds this year. This group is also a real demonstration of diversity in our EMBA programme in terms of gender, nationality, industry, profession and character as well.
Thanks to the leadership from Professor Pong Yuen, Howard Lam, and my colleagues Dominic Chan, Chun So and many others behind the scene, to make this week a fruitful and impactful one to everyone.
Heartfelt thank to our master professor and mentor Professor Andrew Chan and our elite alumnus Cally Chan, and Dr. Gilbert Cheung to share their knowledge and experience with us. Appreciate it.
May I wish all students of our CUHK EMBA Class of 2024 to have a joyful, meaningful and fruitful journey in the next 2 years. See you all in my #innovation and #technology class.

Great insights from my discussion today with Austin R. Bryan, #CLP and Fred Ngan #Bowtie in the #HKGCC forum on “Thriving in a Post-Covid Era Thru Innovation”. Thanks Victor Lam, Chairman of the Industry & Technology Committee of HKGCC, to host us & moderate the panel discussion. Austin & Fred were on Zoom and Victor & I were in HKGCC.
My key takeaways are:
1. Living with #Ambiguity becomes a new normal. We need to keep innovating in an uncomfortable environment.
2. Sense of #Urgency & lean startup thinking are crucial for innovation but most corporates do not have that.
3. Forget about innovation if we don’t have a clear #StrategicIntent. It could be for customer experience, market share or others.
4. #Culture & #Purpose are the keys to drive innovation instead of revenue & profit.
5. >90% of #Startups fail so always making #Survival as a sense of urgency & doing different things from existing players are very important. Same for #Intrapreneurship.
6. #Diversity of teammates with no domain experience is critical as it will bring out blind spots that are unseen by industry experts.
Thanks HKGCC Simon Ngan & teammates to organize the forum. Find out more about the “HKGCC Hong Kong Awards for Industries: #Innovation & #Creativity” here.

The key for success in the #DigitalEconomy is how we can empower enterprises & #startups to collaborate & get the most out of their cooperation or even coopetition. I have been contributing to this on different capacities in the innovation & technology ecosystem. Advisor, professor, mentor, judge of #hackathon & #competition, investors are some of the examples.
Today, I had another chance to do so through delivering a #CUHK #MiniMBA class on “Emerging Tech & Business Innovation”. More importantly, the participants came from both traditional enterprises and startups. This is a special design for our Mini-MBA in Innovative Leadership. Thanks for #HKSTP to bring a few elite startups from their #LEAP & #Incubation programmes like #beNovelty #Compathnion to join the class today. Also thank to large enterprises like #ICBC #CCB for their active participation today.
I was impressed by the chemistry of bringing these groups together in a class. The #diversity stimulated lots of great interaction. We have gone through concepts & cases on #Innovation, #BusinessModels #Reinvention, competitions from #DigitalDisruption, #Intrapreneurship.
Appreciate Anvil Ng Samuel Choi Nathan Ng #HKSTP for their support to our Mini MBA programme.
