Glad to sit down and have a chance to chat with Simon Chan, the new Chairman of Hong Kong #Cyberport. Simon is an experienced banker and has been contributing to the #innovation and #technology#ecosystem in public and private sectors for decades.

We explored different strategies and best practices in Hong Kong and worldwide innovation and technology hubs. More importantly, we shared how to empower our current and future #startups and #entrepreneurs.

We discussed the trends of #FinTech#MetaVerse#AI#BigData#DigitalTransformation for traditional enterprises and more. I also shard my book #數碼力大提升 with him. It was fruitful and insightful discussion.

Thanks Simon. We look forward to seeing more impactful initiatives from Cyberport to Hong Kong with your leadership. Will be there to collaborate and support.

It was my first-time visit to the Hong Kong Observatory 香港天文台 #HKO headquarters in TST yesterday. It is on the top of a small mountain in the busy TST district. I can see the advanced devices and technologies as well as the 130+ years of legacy in the beautiful and historical buildings there. What a contrast and learning for this trip of mine!

I was invited to share my experience on how to collaborate with the #innovation and #technology #ecosystem to co-create values for customers and more importantly for citizens in Hong Kong. In fact, HKO has been good at making use of science and technologies but also putting emphasis on serving our citizens. I particularly appreciate their mission on “Innovate with Science, Serve with Heart” https://lnkd.in/d9XBB65J. I am impressed by what they have been doing for our citizens. Thank you.

I have shared how we can make use of data to understand the voice of our citizens and the importance of everyone in HKO to speak the language of data so they can solve the pain points of our citizens even better. Through most of the HKO colleagues are engineering background, they also recognized and agreed enhancing their data literacy with right data mindset and skills to understand citizens and solve customers pain points are very crucial for their success.

Thank you so much for Dr. Cheng, Director of HKO, his top management and staff participating in my sharing. In particular, thanks for their meaningful questions and ideas exchanges as well. Appreciate Justine Tang and #PolyU Research Institute for AI of Things #RIAoT to facilitate this sharing session.

Learned a lot today from the #MetaVerse practitioners in town in the 2nd forum of our “All About MetaVerse Series”. The main theme today was MetaVerse Strategies for #Brands#SMEs and #Entrepreneurs. I am so grateful to be the moderator of this series. More episodes will come shortly. Stay tuned with HKPC #Innopreneur vForum. My post on the 1st episode of this series can be found here. https://lnkd.in/dusKJYeA

Big thanks to our guest speakers Lorraine Cheung #YahooChris Wang #AWSKevin K T Lee #Redspots and Henry Chu #PillnPillow. Two of them are entrepreneurs and the other two are platform providers. That enabled us to discuss this topic from a more balanced perspective.

We discussed from MetaVerse opportunities, challenges to technologies, platforms, talents requirement and future skills. MetaVerse is not a hype but the direction is still being shaped. It is very early so everyone gets a chance but we need to keep learning and be open minded.

In essence, there are a few things that we need to strike a balance in order to make the best out of this unprecdented opportunity for the decade – MetaVerse.

1. The next 5 to 10 years will have lots of opportunities. By 2030, the market is going to reach 5 trillion USD globally. At same time, lots of regulations and governance needed to be in place to balance the opportunities and potential problems.

2. We have more opportunities from scalability to the global markets but at the same time competitions from global players.

3. New digital skills will be required but soft skills, like problem solving, communication, project management are equally important.

4. #Data analytics, #MachineLearning and #AI are crucial now and even more pivotal in the MetaVerse for customer experience and engagement.

5. SMEs are lack of resources and talents but lots of good partners in the MetaVerse ecosystem that they can leverage on.

6. Keep trying and learning to get started but be aware of the risks like losing Crypto from your hot wallets.

Lots more to come. See you in our 3rd MetaVerse episode soon. Have a good ride in your MetaVerse journey.

Thanks to Karen F.Elly Yip and their teammates #HKPCDr. Angus Ho #HKIM and Annie Yeung #Vootprint for their great effort to make this forum happened.

Back to the RTHK station today for recording another episode of New Management Thinking 管理新思維. Found a classical radio in 1950 there powered by Vaccum Tube. Oh, WOW! That actually made me think about my childhood with my whole family around a radio like this. It was as advanced and luxurious as what we have a 8k TV today. More importantly, a much more warmth and intimacy with my family back then. What a memory! Transforming a city from an old model to a smart city is like improving from a vintage radio to a 8K TV. Let’s talk about Smart City this time and why every citizen in Hong Kong should care about it. Grateful to have Thomson Lai, the Asia Digital Head of AECOM, as my guest for another fruitful episode in the RTHK’s New Management Thinking 管理新思維. #AECOM is one of key contributors in planning and building our city of Hong Kong in the last 60+ years. Received a book from Thomson called “Hong Kong Created Together”. Lots of Hong Kong’s history from nobody to one of the top cities with world-class infrastructure. Thanks the contribution from Thomson and his AECOM 艾奕康 colleagues. We started talking about what a smart city is. Then we discussed what Hong Kong has been doing in the journey of becoming a smart city, how other leading cities are doing, what key stakeholders are in a smart city and how they are empowering our city as a smart city. Certainly we talked about how emerging #technologies and #data are impacting smart cities. Very interesting. You don’t want to miss it. Really appreciate Thomson’s sharing and my RTHK partner Phoebe. My key takeaways are: 1. Citizen centricity 2. Innovation and entrepreneurship 3. Pan-city digital infrastructure If you would like to learn more from Thomson on Smart City now and the future, please tune in RTHK1 on Jun 19 at 2pm. https://lnkd.in/f-X8RaN For previous episodes of the programme, please visit here. https://lnkd.in/dWRkD_x7 #SmartCity #DigitalCity #RTHK #RTHK1 #FM94 #NewManagementThinking #管理新思維 #CUHK #CitizenJourney #MomentsOfLife #Data #BIM #DigitalTwins #AI #IOT #5G #MetaVerse #VR #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #Startups

Another bright day today. Apart from the sunny sky today, we did have a fruitful forum with the bright minds from the AI industry and bright talents from the China Everbright Bank Hong Kong Branch #CEBHK. It is a part of our Data Literacy Empowerment Programme #DLEP for CEBHK organized by OpenCertHub Academy #OCHA and Hong Kong Institute of Bankers #HKIB.

Appreciate the valuable insights and experience sharing from our guest speakers. It includes Ken Shih#Saxo#SaxoMarketsCalvin Cheng, CFA#Wizpresso, Daniel Ling #OneConnect, and Edwin Hui#Capco. CEBHK’s C-suite together with their colleagues have actively participated our panel in their beautiful collaborative space. Thank you so much for the full support from Nancy Wu, Fanny Chan, their CEBHK’s C-suite and teammates. Also grateful to have my teammates from OpenCertHub and OpenCertHub Academy for their great effort behind the scene to make this forum an impactful one.

We went through a number of practical use cases, shared some key challenges, explored how to justify investment on AI in financial services. More importantly, how to nurture a data mindset and culture across the banks. It means from top management to all levels of colleagues have to be engaged and use data everyday.

In fact, MIT Slogan has a new article just published in May 2022. The core message is that Data is a team sport and the entire organization is the team. This requires data democratization, the idea that data should be in the hands of every employee.
https://lnkd.in/diqnCF4u. This echoes what we talked about today as well as what my team at OpenCertHub Academy is believing in. We aim to empower employees of an organization at all levels with data literacy. Through the collaboration between the data-literate colleagues from different business units and data experts, their organizations will be able to stay ahead of their competition by unblocking more values from data.

I was impressed by the way Nancy Wu, the Deputy CEO of CEBHK, engaged with us and her colleagues today. Here is how she summarized what she learned today from the forum. Her 3 key takeaways today are.
1. Ecosystem
2. Co-creation
3. Roadmap

With Nancy’s leadership, I am confident that we can effectively empower her teammates with the right data mindset and skills to grow and stay ahead of their competition in the AI Era.

Today is a bright day with a sunny and clear sky. What a great day to kick off our collaborative partnership with The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers! OpenCertHub Academy (#OCHA) and The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (#HKIB) are joining hands to upskill the data literacy of the executives and practitioners in the #Banking industry.

#Data is one of the most important assets for leading enterprises in today’s #DigitalEconomy. For #FinancialServices, data is the “new gold” or one of the most important assets these days. To unleash the power of data in the banking industry, everyone needs to speak data and treat it as their second business language.

Just having a core team of data scientists is not good enough to fully unleash the business values of data for banks. We are seeing that a few major international and local #banks are empowering the majority of their workforce on data literacy. They aim to embed a data mindset and skills with every possible colleague so that they can make use of data in their daily jobs. They also empower colleagues to communicate effectively and regularly with their data and IT teammates to come up with better and better analytics and data sources.

The prime objective of the “Data Literacy Empowerment Programme”, the flagship programme of OpenCertHub Academy (OCHA), is to democratize data literacy to everyone in a company so that they can seize the opportunities from data monetization and solve business problems with data analytics on daily basis.

The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) is one of the major institutes to provide training and certification services to the banking community in Hong Kong. Together, OCHA and HKIB aim to contribute to the growth of data talents in the banking community and enhance the competitiveness of the banking industry in Hong Kong through the pervasive use of data. Appreciate the leadership and trust from HKIB’s Carrie Leung and Philip Kam, and the great support from their teammates, and certainly my OCHA’s teammates Andy Kwok, Dr. Victor NgPatrick TsoiCandi Yeung and more. We look forward to collaborating with HKIB to co-creating values for the growth of #FinTech in Hong Kong.

If you are interested to find out more, please visit OCHA website https://lnkd.in/gi6y9mJE or contact OCHA and HKIB for more.
