ASEAN countries are ramping up to seize the AI and BigData opportunities. For instance, according to a latest IDC report, AI will nearly DOUBLE the rate of INNOVATION in MALAYSIA by 2021. https://lnkd.in/fm_kaXS.  A strong demand of AI and Big Data technical and business talents are there in ASEAN.  OpenCertHub www.opencerthub.com has launched its partnership program in  KL on Sep 24,  2019 to collaborate with training institutes, universities, consulting firms, government agencies, recruitment firms, etc., to authenticate and certify AI and Big Data talents. We received great responses from Malaysia’s AI and Big Data ecosystem and have already moved forward with key partners in KL. Special thanks to MD of  KnowledgeSociety Selva Nagappan, Senior Data Scientist of MDEC ADAX Dr. Poo Kuan Hoong, GAIN Global AI Network in Malaysia and Pauline Goh from InvestKL for their support. We are also working on other ASEAN countries especially Singapore , Thailandand Vietnam. If you were in the AI and Big Data ecosystem of these countries, we are happy to collaborate with you. Cheers.

Apart from GreaterBayArea, SouthEastAsia is another uprising region in the vibrant Asia. We are both ramping up our talents to prepare for AI & BigData Era. The Mission of OpenCertHub is to democratize data literacy and capabilities to everyone so that we are ready to take up new jobs created by AI instead of being replaced. We need not just DataScientist but also CitizenDataScientist. “Reskill Everyone for the Unprecedented DataEconomy” is the main theme of our upcoming workshop in KualaLumpur Malaysia on Sep 24 pm. It is our honour to co-organize it with GAIN Global Artificial Intelligence Network in Malaysia. It is a conjunction with the NextBigTech Asia 2019 conference organized by MDEC in KL last week. https://lnkd.in/frzHw3n We welcome partners and enterprises to join us to explore how we can collaborate to furthur strengthen the Data Economy in Malaysia. Please see the details on the poster below and the QR code for registration details. We will continue collaborating with SE Asia’s AI and big data ecosystem. See you soon. China Human Capital Forum 2019 was successfully held in Yantai 烟台 in TsingTao China. 1,000+ CEO and HR professionals joined the forum. Keynote speakers were experts in digital transformation, future workforce, digital leadership, etc. It was my honour to be one of them to share my experience on #DigitalStrategy for Traditional Enterprise. Lesson learned is that there is an urgency to #Reskill our colleagues in the AI Era. CEO and HR of leading enterprises are well aware of the storm of #DigitalDisruption. They are proactively reskilling their colleagues to best capitalize what digital can offer them. One example is #AIAugmentation  #人智 where human work with  robots to gain competitive advantages over the laggards. These companies have created new AI positions and retrain their staff on AI BigData and DataQuotient to take up these new jobs. Have we reskilled yet?

From their National BigData Analytics Framework to now NationalAI Framework, Malaysia MDEC has been proactively to transform their country to be a DataEconomy. I have participated in their largest AI & Big Data Annual Conference nextbigtechasia https://lnkd.in/ezEXEbr On behalf of OpenCertHub, I was glad to have a chat with the MDEC CEO Surina Shukri and Head of Data Economy Dr. Karl Ng there to see how we can collaborate to cultivate a platform to authenticate and certify AI and Big Data talents to fuel the rapid growth of the data economy in Malaysia. I also shared our experience in Hong Kong and mainland China on how we collaborate with the training institutes, universities, corporates, AI & big data companies & experts, recruitment professionals to nurture AI & big data talents. Our common mission is to democratize data literacy to the mass. AI is going to replace a lot of jobs but at the same create a lot of new jobs. Business leaders and professionals, not just IT guys, need to reskill ourselves on data capabilities in order to grow with the data-driven digitaleconomy.  CitizenDataScientist is the way to go. For more, please visit www.opencerthub.com. Really glad to have met many great partners and clients who are interested to collaborate with us.

“Banking is necessary but banks are not” ( quote from Bill Gates ) is not just applied for the incumbents in banking industry but all leaders in traditional industries. Traditional companies are facing unprecedented challenges from 4 major forces in the Digital Economy. Many of them will not survive if they don’t act now & don’t do it right. Last week in Shanghai, I have shared my experience gained from consulting large incumbents & cultivating innovative startups. We talked about these 4 key types of competitors for traditional companies: 1. Tech Giants Amazon Alibaba 2. Unicorns Gogovan Klook 3. Traditional companies from other industries with great digital capabilities to cross over to your industry Volkswagon getting into insurance 4. Companies in your same industry but with better digital capabilities than you Strategy that we learned from Business School, MBA and EMBA still matters but may not be good enough to empower leaders to win & even survive in the Digital Age. We talked about how to formulate Digital Strategy, cultivate a Digital Workforce & work with Digital Colleague around us. More importantly, how to innovate & collaborate with startups. Will deliver this talk in Tsingtao, Taiwan, Malaysia & more Asia’s cities in the next few months. CU.

I would like to share what I learned from my recent visits to 3 leading innovation labs with AI focus in HKSTP. It is all about co-creation. Love it.   IBM Innovation Lab brings their world’s innovation to HK & co-creates solutions using Design Thinking with client & startup to solve their pain points. IBM’s 19 world-class research facilities spread across 12 laboratories on 6 continents with 3,000+ researchers. Thanks for IBM GM of HK Francis Ngai to make this happen. Siemens Innovation Lab focuses on Mobility & SmartCity. Their MindSphere is the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens that connects our products, plants, systems, & machines, enabling us to harness the wealth of data generated by IoT with advanced analytics. The lab facilities clients and startups to co-create IoT & Big Data innovations. Thanks  to Siemens CEO of Mobility Jens-Peter Brauner to make it happen. Last but not the least, HKAI Lab is a non-profit organization which aims to empower AI startups on technology side & nurture a healthy AI community for HK. The lab is backed by Alibaba AEF Sensetime & STP. They run 2 cohorts per year to select AI startups with cutting edge technology to join them. Thanks for Executive Director of the HKAI Lab Timothy Leung to make this happen.

Towngas is a great learning organization with open culture to keep their teams innovative in the Digital Economy. They have been organizing Techtalks regularly on topics like IOT AI 5G MachineLearning to educate their colleagues at all levels updated on Innovation. They made use of lunch time & Skype to make these available to most staff in different locations. Great effort there. It was my honour to share my experience on BigData with them. Thanks for GM of Corporate IT Susanna Shen inviting me for such a great sharing session. We talked about a few key innovations to make use of big data including Philips,  Michelin, Siemens, Amazon and Alibaba. I use life examples to make this topic understandable to audiences with different backgrounds. I believe it is the key as TechTaks do not have to be RocketScience. Rather, it should bring out how technology relates to what the audiences care like customer experience. Everyone needs to be Citizen Data Scientist and high DataQuotient to make intelligent use of data to compete in today’s digital world. We also discuss Preventive Maintenance on stoves, pipes, Smart Meters to do Smart City AlgorithmaticTrading.  Great to have the discussion to trigger more inspirations. Keep it going TownGas to create more values to us. Thank you.

“We are not creating a breakthrough technology. We are creating an unforgettable customer experience”. This is what I learned from Jess Mak from HTC. In most of our innovation and technology discussions, we focus pretty much on technological advancement, business models, investments, markets, etc. We seldom talk about the Human Side of technology. It is not just important to our customers and but also to our colleagues. Though we talk a lot on pain points of our customers, engagement with our colleagues, how many of us are doing it well? Jess Mak from HTC brought us her experience on how human centricity 以人為本 can make a difference in Leadership, Marketing, Customer Services, Product Design, Research, Staff Management, etc. To many of us, HTC is a mobile phone maker. In fact, their mission is “We are not creating a breakthrough technology. We are creating an unforgettable customer experience”. Listen to the episode of CUHK EMBA 管理新思維 on RTHK1 FM926 broadcasted on Jul 28, 2019. Professor Andrew Chan, RTHK Fiona and I had a fruitful, interesting and joyful discussion with Jess. I also learned a lot from her. Big thank you to Jess. https://lnkd.in/e9k3nwF

The Talents Development Committee of Macau SAR Government to gather overseas Macao’s talents back to Macao to share their experience with the Monetary Authority of Macau, Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre, University of Macau, Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre, etc. Macao-native international talents on  FinTech, Chinese Medicine, and  Entrepreneurship were included in this time.   Macao press on the visit

It was my honour to be a part of it and shared my experience on innovation and technology industry, in particular, FinTech, AI, IoT, SmartCity, Entrepreneurship, Startup with senior government officials, corporate executives and academia. It was a fruitful trip to learn how Macao plans to strengthen their business link with Portuguese speaking countries like Portugal Brazil and position themselves in the Greater Bay Area. Also, how they plan to do more on Entrepreneurship and Smart City. With the new Chief Executive on board in 2020 plus the gambling license renewal of the 6 casinos in 2022, Macao will have a great chance to transform and flourish. If you would like to collaborate with Macao, please let me know.

What is the chemistry when we put AI & FinTech together? How top players Payment Mastercard, VirtualBank Lending WeLab & WealthManagement InsurTech Convoy are preparing themselves for the opportunities & challenges in the AI Era? CUHK APIB & Convoy held a forum to explore these hot topics on Jul 5. https://lnkd.in/f5sDQSb

As the keynote speaker of the forum, I delivered a speech on AI Innovation on FinancialServices. It followed by a panel discussion. Special thanks to all panel speakers Kenny Cheng George Lee Ricky Wong.

Key takeaways:
1. data platform talent startup & enterprise collaboration are the sources of today’s FinTech Era
2. If you were not taking any risks, your risk will be even higher.
3. All other payments companies are not our competitors. We worked with partners to connect the dots of data to serve our customers better.
4. When we started, we had zero customer & no data. Used traditional way to loan money out with professional risk management because of no data. We gradually accumulated data and did testing. Now we have millions of customers with powerful big data driven credit scoring with 1000+ plus data points as our predictors.
