Another good news to the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Ecosystem. City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has launched its #HKTECH300. It aims to raise up to 300 start-ups in 3 years. They offer attractive 10K, 100K, 1,000K schemes to cultivate these emerging #startups.

Depending on stages of the startups, the beginning startups can start with 10K which basically includes a series of #entrepreneurship training. If the startups are more mature, they can go for a seed fund of 100K or an angel fund of 1,000K.

Are you qualified for this program? If one of the key members in your startup is a CityU alumnus or your project can make use of CityU’s #IP, you may apply for it. For exact eligibility, please refer to the link https://lnkd.in/gSHdQ7m .

I am so grateful to be a member of the vetting team (as EXCO of FHKI Startup Council) to help choose the best of the best to join the program, & provide mentorship & advice when appropriate. More importantly, I am so proud of my Alma Mater, CityU, where I earned my doctoral degree years ago. Thank you #CityU to empower me & many leaders in the #innovation and #technology industry.

Thanks, Ron KwokAdams C., Michael Yang, Thomas Chan, & many other professors & colleagues City University of Hong Kong to make this happen.

What a rewarding 4 days together with my #CUHK #EMBA students! I took them through a very timely and critical intensive training on #innovation #strategy & #management. Our students are all senior executives from mainland #China including traditional companies and tech giants.

I have invited 4 guest speakers to share their corporate innovation experience with us. Thanks Eric Hui #ZurichInsuranceCharles Lam #FubonAkina Ho #GreatEagle and Damien Ko #G2000. Their sharings were insightful & practical. We all learned a lot from them. Thank you.

I used a few inspirational cases as the core for my class, such as, #Disney#Netflix#Marriott#Airbnb#Adobe#PingAn#Haier#Philips#Samsung#Booking.com, #3M#Amazon#Alibaba#Advantech#Walesgreen, etc.

Though we had to use Zoom for the training, the class participation from our students on our case discussion was no less than a #f2f class. Really impressed by the quality of my students’ questions, analysis, debates & suggestions. Thank you.

My students had a nice dinner in Shenzhen with lots of joy after the 4 days class. They were well deserved it. Hope to join them next time when there is no quarantine needed.

Happy Father’s Day for everyone!

Great exchange of ideas with Andy Ann – one of the best tech #SerialEntrepreneurs from Hong Kong as well as our #CUHK #EMBA #CUHKEMBA distinguished alumnus. He has founded a few successful start-ups before another great one #YAS today – a #InsurTech startup focusing on #MicroInsurance. Impressive!

I met Andy a few years ago when we participated the #HSBC Innovation Summit. We have both witnessed how HSBC Commercial Banking have been transforming in the Digital Economy and glad that we had a chance to contribute to their #innovation journey as well.

Honoured to receive his book #創業不困難 from him directly. Learned a lot of secret sauce on being a successful startup today from Andy. I will share a copy of my book #數碼力大提升 in my next round of discussion with him.

We will explore further on how to empower and support our startup ecosystem, in particular those are trying but not yet on the right track, better and stronger.

Look forward to learning from and collaborating with Andy and many other successful entrepreneurs from Hong Kong, mainland and Asia. Stay tuned.

The 2nd episode of our #FoodTech Series was done today in #HKPC. It is a part of our #Innopreneur Forum Series. It aims to bring leaders from Hong Kong to share their experiences to use #Innovation & #Technology to empower their business & solve problems. #SMEs can learn from them to accelerate their #DigitalTransformation.

Today, we had 4 leaders on my panel to share their experiences. Really appreciate their contribution.

Here are my key takeaways:
1. Pick the right staff with a passion for transformation to lead innovation projects.

2. Benchmark units with innovation & those who are behind, reward those who have tried.

3. Collaboration with #ecosystem is in fact a key competitive advantage especially sharing & integrating data to co-create values for customers.

4. Make use of algorithms and big data to drive customer experience and engagement

5. Patience is vital as digital transformation takes longer than we planned but we have to start now or it is too late.

#Academia#Corporates#TechGiants & #Startups are joining hands to establish the first ever #Corporate #Innovation #Index (CII) for Hong Kong.

#CUHK Business School together with #HKGCC supported by #HKSAR #ITC#Cyberport#HKSTP, Corporates #HangSengBank#JETCO#JardineRestaurantGroup#TradeLink #Prestique, & Tech Giants #IBM #AWS #SAP, launched the CII project today in HKGCC. https://lnkd.in/eXf44k7

Under Secretary HKSAR ITB David Chung, HKGCC Chairman George Leung, CUHK Business School Dean Professor Lin Zhou, & Professor Wai Man Cheung gave their speeches to support the CII project.

Seasoned corporate leader Patrick S Lee & I led an interactive discussion on corporate innovation with over 40 f2f & many online corporate & tech leaders. The discussion was open & insightful. Here was one that I couldn’t agree more.

Raymond Cheng, the former CIO & COO of HSBC APAC, was here today. He said, “The more difficult time we are in, the more innovation we need.” I believe it said it all for us under the tough time of the Covid-19 & heavy digital disruption across industries & economics.

Appreciate support from Eugene Hsia Stella Kwan Andrew Ling Francis Ngai David Chow Chris So Angus Choi Yvonne Che Eunice Chan Vicky Wong & colleagues from #CUHK & #APIB.

Visited the #HKSTP #InnoCell together with Edmund Lee #TIN Chairman and Duncan Chiu #HKITJC Chairman today. #Wow.. It is amazing. It is another milestone for Hong Kong #Innovation and #Technology #Ecosystem. It is much more than a hotel providing accommodation for #startups to stay and live closer to their offices, labs and incubation centres.

The design of the InnoCell is a #collaboration #community with different types of open indoor and outdoor spaces for like minds #entrepreneurs to mingle, brainstorm and co-create values. Really impressive.

Congratulations and thank you to HKSTP to bring this first of its kind to Hong Kong and empower our ecosystem. More about the InnoCell here.

The key for success in the #DigitalEconomy is how we can empower enterprises & #startups to collaborate & get the most out of their cooperation or even coopetition. I have been contributing to this on different capacities in the innovation & technology ecosystem. Advisor, professor, mentor, judge of #hackathon & #competition, investors are some of the examples.

Today, I had another chance to do so through delivering a #CUHK #MiniMBA class on “Emerging Tech & Business Innovation”. More importantly, the participants came from both traditional enterprises and startups. This is a special design for our Mini-MBA in Innovative Leadership. Thanks for #HKSTP to bring a few elite startups from their #LEAP & #Incubation programmes like #beNovelty #Compathnion to join the class today. Also thank to large enterprises like #ICBC #CCB for their active participation today.

I was impressed by the chemistry of bringing these groups together in a class. The #diversity stimulated lots of great interaction. We have gone through concepts & cases on #Innovation#BusinessModels #Reinvention, competitions from #DigitalDisruption#Intrapreneurship.

Appreciate Anvil Ng Samuel Choi Nathan Ng #HKSTP for their support to our Mini MBA programme.

#CPAAustralia has released their annual survey “CPA Australia Asia-Pacific Small Business Survey 2020-2021”. It covers 11 economies in the APAC including Hong Kong.

Thanks for Janssen Chan FCPA (Aust.) & my #CUHKMBA student Carmen Pan to invite Ryan Fung from #PAOB & I to join a forum to discuss about technology adoption & applications in HK based on the survey. Close to 500 participants joined the online forum.

Hong Kong SMEs are behind some Asia’s economy in terms of #eCommerce#SocialMedia and #Innovation. However, those in HK who used #technology in their business & operation have seen significant growth even under the #Covid19.

Apart on leveraging government funding & support on #SME #Digitalization, SME management should not be afraid of technology & think it is a big investment. In today’s digital world, tools are easier to use & learn and it is affordable. More importantly, it is a mindset change & how we adopt changes.

Technology is a new way to solve customer pain points. Knowing & keeping update on what’s available opening up different ways to solve these problems. Good use of technologies can in fact empower SMEs to beat the big guys with rich supply of traditional asset as proven by the #unicorn.

Hong Kong #Economy is ramping up again as the Covid-19 is getting less severe lately. I engaged in 6 activities in the last 5 days. I was grateful to see that we have started resuming face to face #f2f functions & hybrid mode as well.

We can finally see friends & partners in person. Someone said to me, “We could finally exchange paper name cards.” What a way to describe how we have been living & working in the online space for a long time.

I love the theme of this year’s Hong Kong Economic Summit – #Recover#Rebuild & #Reborn. I could feel and witness that it is happening now in our #innovation and #technology industry.

Wish the momentum continues in April & beyond. Everyone is healthy, happy & bouncing back well. Thanks for the great effort from everyone in our #ecosystem to make these possible & happened.

I am exhausted but happy. Good that it is weekend now.

The Asian Knowledge and Innovative Forum #AKIF was successfully held today in the beautiful Arup’s office. This year’s main theme was “#Knowlege and #Innovation in the Post Pandemic Era. #PolyU #KMIRC and #ARUP were the organizers for the forum.

Arup is a leading multinational professional services firm which provides structural engineering consultancy services. Many of the region’s most iconic structures were their master pieces.

Michael Kwok Chairman East Asia from Arup & Prof Xiaowen Fu from PolyU kicked off the forum & Professor Eric Tsui moderated sessions.

It was my honor being invited as one of the keynote speakers. I shared my experience on how democratizing #DataLiteracy empowers knowledge intelligence. AI is automating many jobs including professional services like #engineering#accounting#legal and more. Reskilling professionals with data literacy can empower them to transform themselves to take up new roles and become a trusted advisor in the digitally disruptive world. Also, they can create new business models empowered by data.

Eric Chan #CyberportDennis Wong from #HKT & Yannick Lenormand from #Arup shared their experience on the topic. Great insight & examples.

Thanks Ricky Tsui Elise Chan & Nicole SY from ARUP to organize such a great forum.
