AI Summit Hong Kong 2018

AISummit AI BigData DataScience Cyberport HongKong. AI Summit Hong Kong 2018 was successfully held today in Grand Hyatt hotel Hong Kong. A few hundred of business and IT leaders joined it. Enterprises and AI leaders like JD Alibaba AIA Toyota SCB HSBC CITICBANK iClick SAP IBM JOS, etc., leading universities HKUST CityU and start-ups like GoGoVan FindSolution KristalAI Raspect WildFaces shared their experience with the audiences.

Cyberport with its AI start-ups talked about their innovations, values for enterprises, talents and data challenges, data monetization, and more. We shared lots of great advices to get AI going for start-ups and enterprises in their AI journey. Over 100 guests visited Cyberport campus yesterday before the main conference today. We exchanged ideas with our AI start-ups, IBM and HKU labs in our campus.

AISummit AI Cyberport The Global AI Summit is back to Hong Kong 2nd year in a row. The one in 2017 went extremely well with many leading AI innovators, enterprises and start-ups. It will be held on Aug 1 in Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The same summit is run every year in San Franciso, New York, London and more.

Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2018

#CUPP #Cyberport #ChicagoBooth #FINTECH Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2018 was successfully launched today in Cyberport. CUPP aims to nurture local university students on FinTech entrepreneurship through a bootcamp in a top foreign university. We went to Stanford University Graduate School of Business in the last 3 years. It is the 4th year of our CUPP and we are going to another world-leading business school – The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

The students will take a series of training on FinTech before their US trip. Classes will be delivered by FinTech startups, financial services company, BIG4, technology experts, regulators. The students will join the bootcamp in Chicago and visit top FinTech and technology companies there. Experienced mentors will help students. Students will present their final prototypes and business plan in 3 months. The winners will be awarded seed funds from Cyberport to help the students realize their dreams.

Digital Silk Road forum

Cyberport and HKTDC joined hands to organize a Digital Silk Road forum in the Summit. Cyberport Chairman Dr. George Lam, OGCIO Ir. Allen Yeung and #TNG CEO Alex Kong (江庆恩) shared their views on how Hong Kong plays a vital role in bringing digital transformation to Belt-and-Road (BnR) countries.

3 digital tech start-ups from Cyberport, including #Zegal #Lynk #TravelFlan, joined a panel moderated by me and shared their experience in bringing digital innovations to BnR countries. We also discussed the challenges when they were entering the BnR markets, such as language, culture, regulation, etc. and how they managed them. We appreciate the team work with Daniel Chan and his team from HSBC. 3 of our top AI entrepreneurs from Cyberport including Bianca Ho from #ClareAI, Viola Lam from #FindSolutionAI and Ivy Li from #WildFaces together with me were participating a panel “Reimagine AI”. Thanks for Andy Ann as our moderator.

Many SMEs joined the Summit. They may worry about AI to replace their jobs soon. Panelists shared many real-life examples that AI can in fact help save cost, improve customer experience and add many great values to their businesses. More importantly, we need to leverage on AI innovations rather than being skeptical about it. AI start-ups can make use of technologies to solve enterprises’ and SMEs’ pain points. As a whole, helping them to transform from old to new economy for sustainable growth in this digital era.

Cyberport has been proactively bridging its start-ups with enterprises and SMEs and believes that is critical for Hong Kong’s sustainable growth. Cyberport together with HSBC will continue to bring innovations to enterprises and SMEs in Hong Kong and Asia Pacific.

HKUSPACE Open Day

#FinTech #Payment #hkuspace #Cyberport #Alipay #Octopus #Mastercard HKUSPACE Open Day featured a great fourm on mobile payment innovation, adoption and challenge in Hong Kong. Bosco Lin from #Alipay HK, Sunny from #Octopus, Helena Chen from #Mastercard joined the forum with a few hundred audiences. I shared the FinTech landscape first and then we discussed the current adoption, latest technologies, cybersecurity, data privacy in the mobile payment era. The guests gave a very balanced view on the topic as they are coming from Hong Kong, mainland China and the US.

Cash and coins are still playing a key role in Hong Kong and that’s where mobile payment can add the most values on. When I asked the guests, “Are you guys competitors?”, what do you think how they responded? They said they in fact give more options to citizens and merchants, such as QR code and NFC. It is too early to compete until the adoption of mobile payment is getting higher in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has been improving in terms of FinTech adoption. With mobile payment is getting more success, so will the other FinTech areas such as alternative financing, robo-advisor, etc. Regulators will launch faster payment, open API, virtual bank, etc. Thanks to all the guests and hkuspace.

Cyberport also organized FinTech forum and AI/Big Data Forum. Lots of audiences participated and asked good questions.
