Insights on Cloud Security and AI at the 8th Cloud Forum in Hong Kong

Congratulations to all the winners of the Best HR Awards 2022 organized by CTGoodJobs. Grateful being one of the judges and speakers for the Awards again. My OpenCertHub Academy team fully supported the ceremony this year. Thanks Vivienne Wong, Shirley Pi, William Ho, Reo Lam and their teammates to organize such a great award ceremony. We enjoyed our great collaboration and teamwork with the CTGoodJobs team.

I particularly appreciate this Awards because it has pioneered quite a few award categories to encourage HR leaders to cultivate digital transformation and innovation initiatives and talent to their organizations.

In this year, Data Literacy Association #DaLa www.DaLaHK.org , which was founded by a number of data leaders and I to nurture data culture in large to small organizations, jointly with CTGoodJobs created a new category called Data Literacy Award. It aims to encourage establishing data culture and enabling pervasive use of data in organizations to unleash the power of data to every employee. Congratulations to The Bank of East Asia #BEA to receive the 1st ever Grand Award of this category in Hong Kong. Really appreciate the great team effort from their FinTech, Data and Training and Development teams. Congratulations Stephen L. Kenny Au, and Doris Tong. My OpenCertHub teammates are so fortune to collaborate with the BEA team to empower their colleagues at all levels of the bank to speak the language of data.

Also happy for many HR leaders in town like Fanny Chan from China Everbright Bank Hong Kong #CEBHK, Eliza Ng #HKPC, Edmund Lam #FubonBank, Derek Wu #LKK, and many others for their amazing achievement. Also good to see young leaders like CY Chan #ECHealthCare, Bobo Wong, Michelle Chan #Microsoft, Mingo Tsang #Bowtie and more. They are with bright minds and our future as well.

As I mentioned in my talk on “Data Literacy – Build Future-proof Workforce with Second Business Language”, Digital Transformation not only needs digital experts but also HR experts as change management and culture play a pivot role in its success. Teamwork between digital teammates and HR teammates are super important. Had a very good chat with Kandy Lui #iHRM and learnt a lot from her on the HR profession and it’s latest development. Also learnt from José Carlos Bezanilla on how to make Hong Kong a Great Place to Work #GPTW.

CUHK EMBA 2022: Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Today is the Moment of the Truth #MOT for my CUHK EMBA students in my Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship course. After 8 days of intensive lectures, case discussion, guest speakers’ sharing, they were presenting their group projects.

The project required my students to study a company’s corporate innovation from 6 different perspectives or dilemmas that they learned from my classes and offsite dinners as well 😄😋.
1. Old Economy vs Digital Economy
2. Customer Centricity vs Innovation
3. Strategy Execution vs Searching for Innovation
4. Internal Innovation vs Open Collaboration
5. Entrepreneurship vs Intrapreneurship
6. Experience Driven vs Data Driven

Really grateful to have such a group of elite executives and professionals in my class with strong learning attitude and positive, open and growth mindset. I can feel and see from the quality, innovativeness and teamwork of their final projects. Thank you so much for their great effort.

Special thanks to the feedback from my last year’s CUHK EMBA2022 students as they requested the school to lengthen this course from 1.5 credit to 3.0 credit so that I can have more time to share my experience and discuss content more thoroughly with my students this year. The conference lasted for 3 days and kicked off by the GOH, Professor Sun Dong, Secretary of Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau ITIB, HKSAR Government. Glad to have his support to us. (Hong Kong) An Engaging CUHK EMBA Course on Corporate Innovation

Just completed teaching a highly engaging #CUHK #EMBA course on corporate innovation in the last few weekends. The main theme was #CorporateInnovation, #Intrapreneurship, #DigitalTransformation and #EmergingTechnology. My students are all elite leaders and executives from Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China and overseas across various industries.

Really felt great as our fellow students really contributed to our collective learning. Also felt exhausted as all of us gave in a lot of effort to learn. Really appreciate the growth mindset and learning attitude of our students.

We had gone through a few key best practices and discussed a few real good case studies. This was a special milestone for me as well because I used my own freshly published case study (Nov 9, 2021) on #HSBC #OpenInnovation as one of the key cases to teach this class. Thanks for Daniel Chan Jaff Lau Ada L. Danielle T. and many others in HSBC and Ivey’s professor Hubert Pun to make this case possible. The case is now globally accessible by all major business schools through the world’s top case publisher #IveyPublishing. Here is the link if you would like to learn from it.

I also invited great innovative leaders from corporate and startup worlds to share their experience with my students. Really thank Austin R. Bryan, from #CLP , Kenny Sham from #LEGO and Harris SUN from #RaSpect. After all these, my students had a final project presentation to share their findings and recommendations to the company that they have chosen.

Great insights from my students. I am happy to see that my students came up with great insights and recommendations. I am also grateful that my experience sharings have empowered my students to manage innovation more effectively for their companies and ventures.

Great insights from my discussion today with Austin R. Bryan, #CLP and Fred Ngan #Bowtie in the #HKGCC forum on “Thriving in a Post-Covid Era Thru Innovation”. Thanks Victor Lam, Chairman of the Industry & Technology Committee of HKGCC, to host us & moderate the panel discussion. Austin & Fred were on Zoom and Victor & I were in HKGCC.

My key takeaways are:
1. Living with #Ambiguity becomes a new normal. We need to keep innovating in an uncomfortable environment.

2. Sense of #Urgency & lean startup thinking are crucial for innovation but most corporates do not have that.

3. Forget about innovation if we don’t have a clear #StrategicIntent. It could be for customer experience, market share or others.

4. #Culture & #Purpose are the keys to drive innovation instead of revenue & profit.

5. >90% of #Startups fail so always making #Survival as a sense of urgency & doing different things from existing players are very important. Same for #Intrapreneurship.

6. #Diversity of teammates with no domain experience is critical as it will bring out blind spots that are unseen by industry experts.

(Hong Kong) HKGCC Forum: Thriving in a Post-Covid Era Through Innovation

I am really pleased to join two innovation leaders and good friends Fred Ngan #Bowtie and Austin R. Bryan, #CLP to share our experience on #Innovation together in #HKGCC on Jul 8 afternoon.

It is one of the events of the “Innovation and Creativity” category of the Hong Kong Awards for Industries. The Awards is a premier business awards scheme championed by the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce #HKGCC #香港總商會 is the organiser of the “Innovation and Creativity” category.

Austin is a seasoned corporate leader and has pioneered many successful innovation projects. He will talk about “Can Iconic Companies (old) Innovate? Why do they try? What does it Mean to Innovate?”.

Fred is a serial entrepreneur and has founded a few great #InsurTech #startups. He will talk about “Winning through Digital Innovation”.

I have nurtured quite a few startups. I currently chair, advise and invest in a few emerging startups, and cultivate corporate leaders on #DigitalTransformation and #CorporateInnovation through my training and advisory roles. I will talk about “Digital Transformation: Opportunities and Challenges for Traditional Industries”.
