(Hong Kong) Meet with Andy Ann – One of the Best Tech Serial Entrepreneurs in Hong Kong

Great exchange of ideas with Andy Ann – one of the best tech #SerialEntrepreneurs from Hong Kong as well as our #CUHK #EMBA #CUHKEMBA distinguished alumnus. He has founded a few successful start-ups before another great one #YAS today – a #InsurTech startup focusing on #MicroInsurance. Impressive!

I met Andy a few years ago when we participated the #HSBC Innovation Summit. We have both witnessed how HSBC Commercial Banking have been transforming in the Digital Economy and glad that we had a chance to contribute to their #innovation journey as well.

Honoured to receive his book #創業不困難 from him directly. Learned a lot of secret sauce on being a successful startup today from Andy. I will share a copy of my book #數碼力大提升 in my next round of discussion with him.

We will explore further on how to empower and support our startup ecosystem, in particular those are trying but not yet on the right track, better and stronger.

Look forward to learning from and collaborating with Andy and many other successful entrepreneurs from Hong Kong, mainland and Asia. Stay tuned.

(Hong Kong) Vetting Meeting of Cyberport Incubation Programme

It was a fruitful day in #Cyberport together with Rocky Cheng #BOCHK, Michael Leung #BOA, Dr Wendy Woon Ming LEE #AutoDesk and Justin Leung #YCP. We were in the vetting meeting to select #startups to join Cyberport #Incubation Programme #CIP.

Again, quite a few passionate and elite #entrepreneurs applied for the programme. Great innovations on #FinTech, #InsurTech, #AI, #EdTech, #HealthTech, #PropTech, #DigitalEntertainment, #LifeStyle, #SmartCity, etc. Impressive that a few of them have already had footprint or have their plan and ambition to go after #ASEAN and #GBA markets.

Thanks Cyberport’s team Eric Chan Alice So William Lau Steve Lam and many others for all their effort behind the scene. Keep it going and add oil.

We had lunch in the Interval/Farmacy restaurant in Cyberport. They served vegetables from #Farmacy which use technologies to provide farming at store. Thanks Raymond Mak for making it happened there. Tasty and healthy plus nice environment.

(Hong Kong) BODW 2020 – A few insights about InsurTech start-ups in Hong Kong

#InsurTech is getting great momentum in Hong Kong. #Bowtie #Blue #OneDegree #CoverGo #Coherent #Weinsurance #ZongAn & a few more have been pioneering it & performing well. At the same time, incumbents gradually ramping up their innovation  like #Aviva #AXA #Prudential #SunLife #Zurich

I had a fruitful discussion with Fred Ngan #Bowtie in the #BODW2020 a few weeks ago. Today, I had another chance to talk to a group of experts in the InsurTech industry including Isabel Feliciano-Wendleken Lapman Lee ✔ Syed Musheer Ahmed in the 2020 #NEXX FinTech at #Cyberport.

My key takeaways:
1. InsurTech startups need to find the right sponsor in the incumbents which are aligned on KPIs

2. Like #OpenBanking, #OpenInsurance is needed for better customer experience & collaboration with the ecosystem

3. Build digital insurance from scratch so that the end products are simplier in nature & easier for designing better customer centric solutions

4. #B2B gains good momentum while #B2C can learn from #VirtualBanks.

Apart from InsurTech, the Conference had panels on #VirtualBanking, #Payments & other hot FinTech topics. Glad to see good friends Ernest Leung from #WeLab, Medhy Souidi from #DBS & FinTech guru Emil Chan & others.

(Hong Kong) Applications of AI & Machine Learning in Financial Services

It has been a year since I taught my favorite subject for #CUHK #MBA – Applications of #AI & #MachineLearning in #FinancialServices. I remember how engaged my MBA students like Daniel Lee Carmen Pan Olivia Saha & others were to learn about the subject. They did a few group projects on #PingAn #WeBank #DBS #HKEx impressively. Appreciate all guest speakers Wing Cheung Tim Chan, MBA, FLMI, Bianca Ho, Jacob Wai 韋達人, LLM, MBA, FRM, CMA, MHKCS & Tim Leung to share their practical experience. My students loved this part very much.

A new cohort will start next week. Thanks for Grace Liang‘s & her team’s support to make it happened under the #Covid19. We received great interest & enrollment for this class. Will share the latest AI #innovations on #WealthTech #LendTech #BankTech #PayTech #InsurTech #RegTech & #MarketIntelligence.
