RTHK Radio 管理新思維: Interviewing Mr Clement Lam – CEO of Sun Life Hong Kong

Glad to have Mr. Clement Lam, CEO of Sun Life Hong Kong, be my guest on the RTHK radio programme – New Management Thinking 管理新思維. Really appreciate Clement’s sharing and time, and my RTHK partner Jenny Lee. We talked about how insurance companies innovate. While we are seeing some progress in this space, there are still quite a few internal and external challenges to making changes and innovations to this legacy industry. What have we discussed? 1. Sun Life has been in Hong Kong for more than a hundred years (130 years to be exact). Clement shared his experience of how to change the culture of a well-established company with many professionals and legacy culture to encourage and embrace innovation. 2. Leveraging and investing in startups (for example, Sun Life invested in Bowtie) and collaborating with the ecosystem are other topics that we discussed. 3. We also talked about opportunities and challenges for insurance companies in Hong Kong and the GBA. 4. We exchanged ideas on acquiring, cultivating and retaining the right talents, especially for young generations. 5. Leveraging slashers in the Gig and Sharing Economy is becoming a trend and more companies are making use of it. And a lot more.. (Hong Kong) Vetting Meeting of Cyberport Incubation Programme

It was a fruitful day in #Cyberport together with Rocky Cheng #BOCHK, Michael Leung #BOA, Dr Wendy Woon Ming LEE #AutoDesk and Justin Leung #YCP. We were in the vetting meeting to select #startups to join Cyberport #Incubation Programme #CIP.

Again, quite a few passionate and elite #entrepreneurs applied for the programme. Great innovations on #FinTech, #InsurTech, #AI, #EdTech, #HealthTech, #PropTech, #DigitalEntertainment, #LifeStyle, #SmartCity, etc. Impressive that a few of them have already had footprint or have their plan and ambition to go after #ASEAN and #GBA markets.

Thanks Cyberport’s team Eric Chan Alice So William Lau Steve Lam and many others for all their effort behind the scene. Keep it going and add oil.

We had lunch in the Interval/Farmacy restaurant in Cyberport. They served vegetables from #Farmacy which use technologies to provide farming at store. Thanks Raymond Mak for making it happened there. Tasty and healthy plus nice environment.

Hong Kong Startups Ecosystem Continues to Flourish..

Congrats to Hong Kong Startups Ecosystem. 3 flagship events are all in this week. InvestHK HKFinTechWeek, Cyberport Venture Caplital Forum (CVCF) and HKSTP ElevatorPitch (EPiC). We altogether organized a super successful startups week in Hong Kong and for HongKong even under the recent situation in Hong Kong. Thank you.

What we can do these days is not to give up or stop our innovation and technology aspirations. Rather we need to work together even harder and contribute even more to continue building on what we have established in the past few years and keep cultivating our startups. That is the way we can help HK in this stage and sustain our strength. Let’s keep on our momentum.
