Big data is a hot topic these days among not only technologists but also business leaders in the West and the East. In this session, Dr. Toa Charm is invited by CILTHK to share the disruptive power of big data, critical success factors of making it happen, and its implications to supply chain industry with participants.

Big data is a hot topic these days among not only technologists but also business leaders in the West and the East. Almost all industries and all professions including supply chain and industry are being or will be soon disrupted by big data. Internet-savvy companies like Google and Alibaba, big data start-ups like Zest Finance and Rong 360, traditional companies like GE and Haier, financial services institutions like Citibank and Ping An, are all making use of big data to create their business models to disrupt the rules of our games, win the heart of our customers, innovate new products and services, and make faster and better decisions at right time.

What is big data exactly? Why is it getting our attention these days? Big data is not just a new technology or a system. It is about business transformation and monetization opportunities. Big data promises to transform an organisation from a retrospective, batch, data constrained, monitor the business environment into a predictive, real-time, data hungry, and optimise the business environment. In this session, participants are going to learn the disruptive power of big data, critical success factors of making it happen, and its implications to supply chain industry.

Tif Tam, the representative of organizer, has expressed her thankfulness for Dr. Toa’s sharing in the seminar. It was indeed a rewarding and enjoyable evening, the topic had attracted a great deal of interest to those participants who had attended.

Internet Professional Association and Hong Kong Cyberport invites Dr. Toa Charm to share his experience in the Global Entrepreneurship Week China in Hong Kong on 19 Nov, 2015.

In 2004, Entrepreneurship Week UK was launched through the initiative of former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Inspired by the event, the United States held Entrepreneurship Week USA for the first time in 2007. Global Entrepreneurship Week is the combination and extension of these two events. Shanghai Technology Entrepreneurship Foundation for Graduates sponsored Entrepreneurship Week China in 2007.

The weeklong event links millions of young people around the world through local, national and global activities to help unleash their potential for entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurs, students, educators, businesses, business leaders, employees, leaders of non-profit organizations and government officials will participate in a series of activities to mobilize all sectors of society, move people to action and accelerate the development of entrepreneurship worldwide by promoting local and global entrepreneurial activities. This global initiative inspires young people to develop their ability to innovate, imagination and creativity.

Global Entrepreneurship Week promotes an entrepreneurial culture through passionate global interactive activities. This culture will take root in people’s daily lives, so that young people can feel an entrepreneurial atmosphere in all places and at all times (at school, at home, on the Internet, and at work). Such a new attempt as Global Entrepreneurship Week can unleash the entrepreneurial potential of young people and give rise to a new generation of entrepreneurs. They will actively seek to acquire the knowledge, skills, contacts and values required for establishing an innovative and sustainable business, thereby having a positive impact on their own life and people around them.
