4 local brands’ owners in the food industry got together to discuss how they built their #brand & made use of #technology #FoodTech. It is a part of the #HKPC #Innopreneur program https://lnkd.in/g3TPZtg

My key takeaways:

1. The older generation may say, if you have 10M HKD, you should retire. Jeff #Topsoya #壹品豆品 thought differently. He spent that amount on tech & his biz got up 20 times since then.

2. Changes come from the market pain point. From B2B to B2C, Arist #CentralKitchenOne #厨房壹號 helped young families to get packed food & cook nice home-feel meal under the pandemic. He needs to ramp up processes & automation helps.

3. Building a brand is not just marketing. It is #quality, persistence, focus & #partnershipRaymond Mak #Farmacy started with 5 great ideas & finally focused on one. It was a tough but wise decision.

4. “Start small” is key for #SME #DigitalizationPius Chan #TaiPoChunHing #大埔振興 started buying a simple software & let colleagues to try & give feedback. It helps get engagement & buy-in for more adoption.

5. All guests agreed #food is a tough industry. You & your family have to love the food to make it.

As the panel moderator, I heartfelt thank to all panelists & Mohamed Butt Karen F. Elly Yip Marius Chow HKPC.

“Seeing is believing it”. I had another chance to do so today. I visited Fanny Chan of #ChinaEverbrightBank #中国光大銀行 in Hong Kong.

The bank is a great example of #HR #Innovation. Recently, they won 4 awards in the HR Awards 2020 organized by #CTgoodjobs. Congratulations again.
1. Employer of the Year
2. Best of the Best HR Star of the Year (Awardee is Fanny Chan)
3. Perfect Office Award
4. Best Change Leadership Strategy Award

I was one of the judges for the competition but could only read all the materials online but not offline. Today I really learned a lot more from Fanny & Mike Chen (CEO of the bank).

One thing that cannot be read from online well is the culture, passion & attitude of the bank. Their passion for improvement & the way of hosting me was impressive. Not just personalized greeting messages but also the whole journey of the visit. The message on their visual display “#Agility #Technology & #Ecosystem” was right fit for #DigitalEconomy. The amazing gifts were very thoughtful & useful. The digital accessories & innovative cups were wonderful. Really appreciate it.

Walking around, talking to people & visiting leading companies are very effective to learn new things & keep ourselves up to the market need. Will share more for my future visits. Stay tuned.

#DigitalTransformation is on the top of the list for many leaders across different industries. How #HR should formulate their digital workforce to suit for this transformation? How individuals should prepare themselves to become marketable talents in the #DigitalEconomy? I have shared my views with #CTgoodjobs HR Guru recently.

I also used my journey as an example when I started my #innovation and #technology #career 30 years ago in the #SiliconValley. Hope that gives you some inspiration no matters you are HR professionals, IT and non IT executives, #enterpreneurs and certainly bosses.

Thanks #CTgoodjobs Regina Tam and Cindy Chan for their arrangement and effort.

Really like the award categories of the Best HR Awards 2020 #BestHRAwards2020 organized by #CTgoodjobs. They are innovative and inspiring. In particular, I like these categories:

Best GenZ Attraction Award
Best HR Analytics Strategy Award
Best in HR Digitalisation Award
Best Innovative HR Initiative Award
Best L&D Technology Implementation Award

I am pleased to see that these categories were all encouraging #HR to leverage more on #innovation and #technology to empower their companies, colleagues and even partners. It is an excellent direction towards the #DigitalEconomy.

I was so honoured to join the judging panel with all top HR leaders and professionals. I enjoyed to contribute my experience on innovation and technology to select the award winners this year. Learnt a lot from the award judges and the participating teams. Thank you.

Congrats to all of the winners like #DBSHK#BOCHK#ChowTaiFook#ChinaEverBrightBank#KPMG#OneDegree#SunLife#HKPC#ZungFu, just name a few. Well done. The trophies are just BEAUTIFUL. Find out more about the awardees and the categories here:

Special thank to CTgoodjobs team William Ho, Sherman ChatCindy ChanReo LamRegina Tam Natalie Fong Suky Cheung more.. Well done. Keep it going. 辛苦了,加油!

Glad to meet 2 good friends of mine Andrew and Greg in #SAP. Met both of them for years since the good old days of #BI and #DataWarehousing.

Wow.. SAP has a brand new office with a nice open innovation environment to empower internal and external collaboration. I particularly like the workbench facing the Hong Kong Jockey Club #HKJC in #HappyValley.

It is not just an image packaging but a necessity these days to create values for a wide range of their clients. Most of the top companies are using SAP enterprise software. Like all other industry leaders, SAP also faces new challenges from a new wave of tech giants like Google, Amazon, Alibaba as well as thousands of #unicorns. Also, attracting & retaining young talents are very critical for today’s success. On one hand, SAP keeps building on their strength with deep domain knowledge & #ERP technologies; on the other hand, an #OpenInnovation strategy is undergoing to cope with new competitions & talents acquisition. Great and positive change!

Really pleased to see my two good friends today, a retail and supply chain expert Andrew Ling and a #AI and #BigData expert Greg Wong. Also met new friends in SAP Sandy Yu and Helen Lam. Let’s collaborate to contribute more to the #innovation and #technology industry in Hong Kong.

“Can traditional enterprises stay competitive in the Age of AI?” & “Can we stay ahead of the curve in the Age of AI?”. These are the two key questions that today’s business leaders, executives & professionals in traditional & even technology companies are asking themselves.

My #CUHK #BusinessSchool #APIB teammates & I have put together a 2 days executive education program “The Power Duo of AI and Big Data”. It aims to answer the 2 key questions above. Find out more here.

The format of the program is a combination of lectures, case studies, group discussion, demo and hands-on, fireside chats with top business executives and AI leaders from corporates, #startups & #SMEs.

“Keep #Learning” or “#Reskilling” is one of the smartest ways to spend our time under the #Covid19. Good news is that this program is supported by the HK government #RTTP scheme. Participants may apply for the funding support & will pay only 1/3 of the fee.

The schedule is set on Aug 19 and 20, 2020. Hopefully it can be delivered in our campus classroom but it is also ready for a hybrid mode of campus and online Zoom. See you there.

#AI #BigData #DigitalTransformation

Daily work has kept many of us busy all the time including me. Last week, I had a chance to sit down in the relaxing #ArtyzenClub and talked with Jacky about my 30 years of career journey in the #Innovation and #Technology industry from #SiliconValley to #HongKong as well as #Macau #GreaterBay and #Asia. You may watch my chat with Jacky from this facebook link:

Hope you got a few inspirations from what I have learnt so far. Ups and downs are normal. One thing is unchanged. #LifeTime #Learning is the key to success especially in the #DigitalAge. Things that we learnt today are not enough for tomorrow. Let’s keep our journey going by learning a bit more every day.

Last but not the least, I would like to thank my family especially my parents, friends, professors, current and former colleagues and business partners who have been fully supporting my career and life. I am so grateful to have you all in my journey.

Let’s have a nice drink together in the beautiful Artyzen Club soon. Cheers.

Macau gets into the next decade with great opportunities. It was not said for no reason.

The new government will start on 20 December 2019. It will be led by a great leader Ho Iat-seng who has extensive experience in various industries and a strong relationship with the mainland and Asia.  In addition, all casinos are required to renew their licenses by 2022. The policies of the Greater Bay Area from the Central Government will be provided more support to Macau. Portuguese-speaking countries, such as Portugal and Brazil, provide good access to their home markets plus countries in Europe and Latin America. More are being explored like RMB Clearing, Stock Exchange, Green Financing, Smart City, MICE, etc. Certainly, there are challenges to be resolved by the new administration together with the business and academic leaders in Macau.

In the past few years, I have been contributing to the government, business and academic communities in Macau especially on innovation and Technology (FinTech, AI, Big Data, Smart City ), Entrepreneurship, Talent Development, and Training areas.

If you are interested in sharing your knowledge and contributing your expertise with Macau or if you have ideas or plans to leverage these opportunities in Macau, please feel free to contact me for potential collaboration.  Let’s nurture Macau to be another great and smart city in the Greater Bay Area and contribute to improving the quality of lives and economy in the region.

Here are some of the snapshot photos taken in my engagement with Macau societies.

“We are not creating a breakthrough technology. We are creating an unforgettable customer experience”. This is what I learned from Jess Mak from HTC. In most of our innovation and technology discussions, we focus pretty much on technological advancement, business models, investments, markets, etc. We seldom talk about the Human Side of technology. It is not just important to our customers and but also to our colleagues. Though we talk a lot on pain points of our customers, engagement with our colleagues, how many of us are doing it well? Jess Mak from HTC brought us her experience on how human centricity 以人為本 can make a difference in Leadership, Marketing, Customer Services, Product Design, Research, Staff Management, etc. To many of us, HTC is a mobile phone maker. In fact, their mission is “We are not creating a breakthrough technology. We are creating an unforgettable customer experience”. Listen to the episode of CUHK EMBA 管理新思維 on RTHK1 FM926 broadcasted on Jul 28, 2019. Professor Andrew Chan, RTHK Fiona and I had a fruitful, interesting and joyful discussion with Jess. I also learned a lot from her. Big thank you to Jess. https://lnkd.in/e9k3nwF
