Exciting Innovations Await: Hong Kong ICT Awards 2023 Kicks Off After Pandemic Hiatus

Hong Kong ICT Awards 2023 is right on. This is the first one after the pandemic period. We have outstanding number of contestants to join our different streams of awards this year. We look forward to witnessing amazing innovations from this year’s competition. More about the HKICTA can be found here.

I am grateful to have opportunities in the past few years to engage in the HKICTA as organizer and/or judge in various streams. Today, I shared, together with other ICT leaders Agnes Mak, CK Wong and Chin Lok Tsang (Winner of Grand Award of Student Innovation Stream last year), with this year’s contestants on our experience in preparing for the competition.

We received quite a few sensible questions from audiences on site and online. We did have a good discussion today and hope it helps.

Thanks for #OGCIO Josephine Cheng and her teammates to organize such a great learning session for all participants of this year’s competition.

More importantly, we all hope that all participants enjoy the process and learn more from it to make their innovations better year by year. I wish all of you can use your wisdom and innovation to make Hong Kong proud. Good luck and see you on the scene.

As a member of the GS1 HK’s IoT Industry Advisor Council, I am glad to join the 16th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao IoT Technology Application Summit co-organised by GS1 HK today in 3 locations, mainland, Hong Kong and #Macau, simultaneously.

Appreciate the effort from Anna Lin, Corinna Fung, Julian Sin#GS1HK, Kingsley Wong #OGCIO, Ivan Lam#ASTRI, 龍勝當 #澳門電腦學會，and certainly counterparts in Guangdong. Glad to see many industry experts there as well Andrew Ling, wilson chong, Vincent So, Ir Dr Venus Lun, Harman Ng, Kinsen Lee, Bryan Peng(彭文俊)Alex Chung 鍾孝揚 and many others.

Great to see the collaboration across 3 regions on IoT applications on various industries. To make our Greater Bay Area or GBA work, we need smart money flow (FinTech and RegTech), smart logistics flow (AIOT) and certainly smart information flow (AI and Big Data). All these flows have to be protected by CyberSecurity and Blockchain.

Thanks for Anna’s leadership and her GS1HK team effort. Look forward to having more collaboration in these areas and contributing more in this alliance across the #GreaterBayArea#GBA in 2022 and beyond.

Appreciate #HKIB teammates led by Mr. David Kwok, Carrie Leung and Philip Kam for their leadership and professional management of the FinTech Award. The good news for this year is that we are witnessing better and stronger teams year from year. Here are the 3 key highlights.

1. We had record high in terms of number of applications this year.

2. We had richer varieties of #FinTech innovations this year, such as #InsurTech, #RegTech, #Tokenization, #AI on HR in Financial Services.

3. We also appreciated more collaboration of FinTech #startups #entrepreneurs and financial services incumbents #leaders to #cocreate better customer experience, products and services, and innovate new business models. From competition to collaboration.

With this foundation and FinTech ecosystem that we have built for Hong Kong, plus initiatives like HKMA #FinTech2025 and #CDI, #GBA, #ESG, #InsuranceConnect, etc., We are expecting even better innovations coming in the next few years.

Congrats to all of you including myself and be grateful to be a part of the FinTech innovation journey for Hong Kong. Thank you.

My key takeaways:

1. Identify the right problem or pain point to focus on

2. Passion, purpose, social impact & charisma count on top of #innovation & #technologies.

3. Scalability of your business to show your “hockey stick” growth

4. #KYJ Know Your Judges is equally important as #KYC Know Your Customers. Every customer is different so is every judge. Find out who they are & predict what they will ask.

5. Establish your credibility by proven cases, customer traction, industry endorsement, etc.

6. Time management, fully utilize your presentation and Q&A time

7. Preparation, rehearsal, proactively get third party feedbacks. Do you have devil advocate in your network? Find them & get them challenge you.

8. Rehearsal, backup plan for your demos, backup slides…

Grateful to see and contribute to another great offline conference today. The 6th #Cloud Forum Hong Kong was successful launched today at the #HKCEC. The main theme was Cloud HyperDrive in Disruptive Time.

I was moderating the 1st panel of the forum and the topic was #CloudMigration. We had a good mix of experiences in our panel so we could make insightful discussion from different perspectives. It included well established company Dr. Ted Suen, MH #MTR, vibrant #FinTech #InsurTech #Startup Michael Kwan Yu Chan #Bowtie and leading Cloud Service provider #AWS  .

It was a very insightful discussion. We touched on internal buy in, Capex and Opex changes in adopting Cloud, governance, partner selection, outsourcing strategy, SME challenges, etc. Thank you for all our panelists’ insightful and practical experience sharing.
