(Hong Kong) Joint Webinar with HKiNEDA for Introducing the Corporate Innovation Framework

We kicked off our Hong Kong #CorporateInnovationIndex #CII programme last year https://lnkd.in/geGBxEVS. CII is being co-organized by #CUHK and #HKGCC, and has gained full support from #ITF, #HKSTP, #Cyberport and many other leading enterprises, tech leaders and professional associations.

Since then, apart from research and literature review, we have done a series of consultation sessions and pilot studies with industry leaders and practitioners. We are grateful that we have finished the design of our Corporate Innovation Framework. Thank you so much to all those who have contributed to our framework and definitely my teammates at CUHK.

The framework contains 12 factors under three constructs – Resources, Enablers and Value. If you would like to know more about the framework, please let me know. Based on the framework, we have designed a survey to measure the corporate innovation of large companies and SMEs.

We have started introducing the Corporate Innovation Framework and the survey to different associations and companies. Today, we have done a joint webinar with #HKiNEDA for their #INED members. Appreciate their support. We did have a good discussion today. If your associations or companies would like to organize a session to learn about our Corporate Innovation Framework, please let me know.

We have just launched the CII survey and are now collecting data. If you would like to have a health check for the innovativness of your company, I would encourage you to participate the survey. Find out more here https://lnkd.in/gzykEWCF.

It is not just a ranking exercise. Rather, it will give you a good opportunity to discuss about innovation with your colleagues when you are filling up the survey. You will find out and learn more about your company.

We will also provide assessment to you so you know where you are and where to improve. A series of workshops and trainings will be offered then.

Let’s together enhance the innovativeness of our companies, our teams and ourselves.

First of all, I wish all of you have a prosperous, healthy & happy year in 2022. It is time to review 2021 & plan forward.

It has been my great honour to be the Chief Judge of the #HKICTAwards FinTech Award this year and in the last few years. Appreciate #HKIB teammates led by Mr. David Kwok, Carrie Leung and Philip Kam for their leadership and professional management of the FinTech Award. The good news for this year is that we are witnessing better and stronger teams year from year. Here are the 3 key highlights.

1. We had record high in terms of number of applications this year.

2. We had richer varieties of #FinTech innovations this year, such as #InsurTech, #RegTech, #Tokenization, #AI on HR in Financial Services.

3. We also appreciated more collaboration of FinTech #startups #entrepreneurs and financial services incumbents #leaders to #cocreate better customer experience, products and services, and innovate new business models. From competition to collaboration.

With this foundation and FinTech ecosystem that we have built for Hong Kong, plus initiatives like HKMA #FinTech2025 and #CDI, #GBA, #ESG, #InsuranceConnect, etc., We are expecting even better innovations coming in the next few years.

Congrats to all of you including myself and be grateful to be a part of the FinTech innovation journey for Hong Kong. Thank you.

Grateful to spend my weekend with elite tech entrepreneurs and business leaders to learn about emerging technologies and business innovation. It is one of my classes in #CUHK Mini MBA Innovative Leadership program. It aims to #upskilling busy executives and #entrepreneurs on the latest #leadership mindset and skills in the #DigitalEconomy through a series of short modules in a few months.

I particularly like the mix of my class participants. We had quite a few startups’ founders and leaders like #Dayta, tech giants like #AWS, financial services like #HangSengBank, public sector like #HKHousingSociety and major ecosystem enabler like #HKSTP. My class in fact is a mini tech and innovation #ecosystem. One of the most valuable parts of this class was the team discussion and case studies where we could focus on the key aspects that our participants were most concerned and cared about in seizing the opportunities and managing the potential risks in the emerging digital economy.

Thanks for the active participation of all the students. Really enjoyed it and learnt from you all as well.

(Hong Kong) 2021 Hong Kong ICT Expo

How do you like my “Digital Look”? Stay young and stay innovative. We should not call “IT Look” anymore as it not cool or chill enough. It should call “Digital Look” or “D-Look” these days.

Since I have seriously been engaging with the innovation and technology ecosystem worldwide 7 to 8 years ago, I feel younger and more passionate than my last 25 years in the traditional IT industry. If you would like to be younger or look-n-feel at least, stick around the innovation and tech ecosystem.

Feel really grateful and happy to be back to large-scale physical innovation and technology conferences and exhibitions in the 2021 Hong Kong ICT Expo this week and the 2021 Hong Kong FinTech Week next week. Elite #startups from #HKSTP Leading Enterprise Acceleration Programme #LEAP showcased their achievement and #innovations today in #HKSTP #InnoCentre. They are some of the best in our ecosystem. Really appreciate Kiki Y. Wang, CFA, MBA, Anvil Ng and their teams to nurture and empower these startups.

Apart from the startups in the LEAP programme, corporate executives, investors, mentors also joined today’s gathering. Felt good to see friends like 陳繼宇Dr. Jason Chan, MH, JP, Harris SUN, Edmund Lee, Patrick S Lee, S.C. Mak & more, and made some new friends.

I particularly like the banner posted today on site. It is a city map which covers our daily works and lives. It includes #Retail, #Logistics, #SupplyChain, #Manufacturing, #Healthcare, #FinancialServices, #Airport, etc. Then, they put the logos of their LEAP startups on the right spots on the map. It helps us visualize where and how these LEAP startups contribute to our works and lives, and collectively build a #SmartCity. You can download the map here.

To help the contestants better prepare for the #HKICTAwards FinTech Award, Hong Kong Institute of Bankers organized an  Experience Sharing Forum for them today. Thanks for #HKIB Carrie Leung Philip Kam & team’s effort.

We invited last year’s Gold Award winners, Miles Wen (温豪夫) #FanoLabs, Ken Shih #Aqumon, & Joyce Lau #HKFI. to share their experiences and journey. We also invited Dupty Chief Judges Michael Leung #BOA and Stephen Lau #HKCS, & Chief Assessors Dominic Siu #Prudential & Betty Chung #DahSingBank, to give advice to the contestants.

As the Chief Judge of 2021, I gave an opening speech on “Shaping the Future of FinTech Hong Kong”. In the last few years, we have together built a world class #FinTech hub in Hong Kong. FinTech entrepreneurs from nobody to today’s global FinTech leaders, like Simon Loong #WeLab, Fred Ngan #Bowtie, Tomas Holub #Covergo, Tim Lee #QFPay, Alvin Kwock #OneDegree & Miles Wen (温豪夫) #FanoLabs. Impressive! #HKMA, #SFC #HKIA #InvestHK #Cyberport #HKSTP together with incumbents #Citi #HSBC #HangSengBank #DBS #AMTD #BOCHK #AIA #Prudential, just name a few, also contributed significantly to the growth of HK FinTech industry.

Look forward to witnessing the innovations from this year’s contestants to shape the future of FinTech HK.

Venture Beyond Boundaries – I love this vision of #CityU #HongKongTech300. The program has gained tremendous support from the power houses and leaders from the #Innovation and #Technogy ecosystem in Hong Kong. It was a great ceremony yesterday to present the seeding funds to selected #startups for the program, appreciate and recognize experienced mentors and annouce the collaboratiom with the China Resources Group #CRC.

#ITB Secetary, #HKSTP Chairman, #Cyberport Chairman, #FHKI Chairman, #StartupCouncil Chairman and many other leaders in town were there to show their support.

I am grateful, as a CityU #DBA Alumni, as well as a Exco of FHKI Startup Council, to be a part of this program as a mentor and vetting team. It was my honor to receive the appreciation plaque from Mr Lester Garson Huang, Chairman of the CityU Council, and President Way Kuo of CityU.

Leaders in Hong Kong shared experience on how corporates can innovate in this challenging time & seize the opportunities in the #DigitalEconomy. It was a fireside chat moderated by Patrick S Lee & I in the launch of Corporate Innovation Index program organized by #CUHK & #HKGCC.

Key takeaways:
1. Corporate innovation is about margin, sustainability & opportunities.

2. Engaging new generation is important for corporate innovation. Reverse mentorship is very effective to empower senior management on innovation.

3. The more challenging time we are in, more innovation we need (not an excuse to give up the priority of innovation)

4. Passion is a key for driving innovation

5. CEO cannot delegate innovation. He or she has to drive it & align with the company’s strategy with it. Bottom up is as equally important as top down.
