Forget the Ladder. Young Professionals Need a New Career Map.
At last weekโs Hong Kong Women Professionals & Enterpreneurs Association (#HKWPEA) x Data & AI Literacy Association (#DALA) luncheon forum on AI-Powered Business Strategies in Action, I had the honor of moderating a vibrant panel with three inspiring women leaders in #AI and #innovation. Heartfelt thank to Crystal Fok #Cyberport, Jacqueline Chong #AWS & Cindy Chan #Smartmore for their insightful sharing. Special thanks to Tommie Lo for his amazing Preface’s office space to host this event.
What truly moved me was the audiences โ a room full of women professionals who brought empathy, insight, and bold questions to the table. One question stood out:
New roles will emerge โ Algorithm Explainers, AI Ethicists, Prompt Engineers.
โ
AI wonโt replace people, but people who know AI will replace those who donโt.
But the ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ is this:
In the AI era, human skills โ empathy, storytelling, negotiation, critical thinking โ are not just relevant, theyโre essential.
Young people may lose traditional entry points, but they gain a golden opportunity to build hybrid careers powered by both tech fluency and human depth.
With lower barriers to entrepreneurship, they can solve real problems, scale globally, and redefine success.
๐๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ, we must think of how we can leverage our new generation. We can empower them to be smarter with AI and human skills. They support us not in the traditional ways. With less administrative burden, we and our junior colleagues can meet/serve more clients and deliver more customer-centric high quality services. ๐๐ฌ ๐๐ ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ, we must go beyond automation. We must design new pathways, rethink education, and create opportunities that honor both innovation and humanity.
I left the forum more inspired than ever โ not just by the tech, but the human side of AI. I have a lot to learn from our women leaders as their perspectives really make a difference and sometimes it’s blind spots for male leaders.
Appreciate the effort from HKWPEA Julianne Doe, Vivien Lee, Grace Tse ่ฌไฝฉๆฌฃ CPA & Jennifer Tan. Also, so grateful to have met so many great women leaders in HK like Elsa Yuen, See Salome, Helen CY Kan, Kelly Y.S. CHAN, FCCA, FCPA, FHKIoD, Janet Yuen, Angela Lee & more.
