During the holidays, we gather with friends and family, enjoy great food, and celebrate new beginnings. Our streets fill with colour, laughter, and festive energy โ€” and by the next morning, everything is spotless again.

This Chinese New Year, that question stayed with me. I hope my first post in the Year of the Horse brings some inspiration to us. While many of us were celebrating, our cityโ€™s unsung heroes were working quietly โ€” often in the cold or the hot โ€” to keep Hong Kong clean, safe, and beautiful. Day after day, they take on tasks most of us would never choose to do, yet their work is essential to the life we enjoy.

I joined a volunteer group to visit refuse collection points and deliver small gifts to these frontline workers. It was a simple gesture, but one filled with warmth and gratitude. I wanted them to know that we see them, we appreciate them, and their contribution truly matters.

As we welcome the Year of the Horse, I hope more of us will take a moment to recognise these ้ป˜้ป˜่€•่€˜ unsung heroes โ€” and even take a small step to give back. A kind word, a gesture of appreciation, or a bit of our time can make a world of difference. Bring our kids with us so they can learn not taking things for granted and do more contribution to our society.

Wishing these humble and hardworking individuals โ€” and their families โ€” health, happiness, and strength in the year ahead.
