The newly released report from United Nations (UN) and Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) highlights a critical global reality: the AI divide is widening even faster than the digital divide of the Internet era. Developed economies are accelerating ahead with stronger infrastructure, richer datasets, deeper talent pools and greater funding โ€” while developing regions risk being left further behind.

What a meaningful way to do my last open discussion in 2025! Iโ€™m grateful to join a panel moderated by Kenny Shui (OHKF) with Jackie Si Tou (UN), Edward Au Deloitte and Malcolm Liu UBTECH to explore what Inclusive AI means for Hong Kong, and how we can lead with responsibility, innovation and inclusion. Thanks for Dr. Jane Lee and Kenny Shiu to have had me there. Thanks Alex Mak, CFA, CESGA (OHKF) and Jackie (UN) for their insightful sharing to have set the scene for our panel discussion.

I illustrated my view from four different perspectives:
1. ๐„๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ
Hong Kong should attract not only tech giants but also nonโ€‘tech multinationals to establish AI Centres of Excellence here.
This will bring investment, global talent and new opportunities, while allowing companies to tap into Hong Kong and Mainland Chinaโ€™s AI strengths and worldโ€‘class universities.

2. ๐’๐Œ๐„๐ฌ
The government must strategically upskill SMEs to adopt and use AI.
Without this, the competitiveness gap will widen rapidly โ€” and many SMEs may struggle to survive in an AIโ€‘driven economy.

3. ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐  ๐†๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง
This is the most challenging group.
Many junior roles will be automated, meaning young people may lose the traditional pathways we once relied on to gain experience.

We must help them build:
– Soft skills
– Creativity & communication
– Adaptability & entrepreneurial thinking

I also shared the rising trend of the โ€œoneโ€‘man unicornโ€ โ€” individuals empowered by AI agents to build scalable businesses. This future is becoming increasingly possible.

Hong Kong has the talent and technology to support communities at risk of being excluded from the AI era. By exporting our expertise to emerging markets, we uplift others while opening new growth opportunities for Hong Kong.

At DALA – Data & AI Literacy Association DALA we are committed to contributing to Hong Kongโ€™s AI and data literacy development and exploring new ways to promote AI inclusion. Letโ€™s build an inclusive AI future together.
